NJC Scale Pts 23-27- £20,198 - £22,958
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
To provide a high quality, professional and effective health promotion service to
community groups, work places, schools, youth groups and disadvantaged groups and
communities, under the direction of the Health Promotion Manager. This will also include
Health Promotion provision on the BIG BUS, Action Cancer’s state-of-the-art mobile
service, which will provide lifestyle education, emotional support, and life-saving early
detection services.
DUTIES
Health Promotion
1. To participate in and help to initiate a range of health promotion and health
education activities to adults, children and young people in a variety of settings.

2. To participate in the development and implementation of a health promotion
strategy for Action Cancer.
3. To assist in developing new methods of delivering health promotion messages.
4. To assist in the development of health promotion material.
5. To participate in health promotion activities including campaigns as required.
6. To deliver health promotion in relation to strategic objectives for Action Cancer.
7. To travel throughout regional area to provide health promotion sessions and
throughout Northern Ireland, as required
8. To facilitate groups in relation to health promotion.
9. To develop relationships with and to work with community groups and
workplaces in order to develop appropriate health promotion messages.
10. To represent Action Cancer on external working groups
11. To take on a lead role in a specific area of the Heath Promotion service under the
direction of the Health Promotion Manager
12. To liaise with BIG BUS Services Manager/ BIG BUS Co-ordinator regarding
Health promotion provision on-board BIG BUS
13. To provide health checks/body composition/health promotion activities to Action
Man Clinics, Positive Living Programmes and other groups, including fundraising
events as required.
14.To provide daily statistics on uptake of Health Promotion service on BIG BUS
to on-board administrative assistant
15 To ensure an efficient and effective system for referral is maintained and
developed on the BIG BUS
16 To provide daily statistics on uptake of Health Promotion service and take
responsibility for audit and evaluation of service as required.
Health and Safety
1. Ensure that all Health and Safety requirements are met.
2. Ensure Action Cancer Health and Safety Policy is adhered to.
3. To adhere to health and safety and control of infection guidelines.
Other
1. To undertake relevant training.
2. To adhere to all policies and procedures of Action Cancer.
3. To undertake relevant projects as required in consultation with the Health
Promotion Manager.
4. To represent the organisation when appropriate at public functions.
5. To speak to the media in relation to health promotion messages when
appropriate.
6. To keep up to date with cancer health promotion messages.
7. To participate in Action Cancer’s appraisal and development system in
accordance with Action Cancer’s policy..
8. To participate fully in the life of the organisation.
9. Flexibility to hours to cover regional provision, including evenings and weekends
as required holidays/sickness
10. To maintain close working and communication with other departments within
Action Cancer

Personnel Specification
Essential
1. Professional qualification or Diploma level qualification or equivalent in a relevant
subject
2. At least one year’s experience in the field of health promotion
3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
4. Ability to work flexibly and to work evenings and weekends.
5. Experience and working knowledge of IT (Microsoft packages), including use of
presentation package.
6. Current full driving licence and access to a car to enable travel throughout N
Ireland or some other form of transport to allow the post holder to carry out the
duties of the post in full.
Desirable
1. Health Promotion Qualification
2. Experience of facilitating smoking cessation groups.
3. Relevant degree qualification or equivalent
4. Knowledge of community development and experience of working with community
groups.
5. Experience of the voluntary sector.
6. Experience of dealing with the media

Terms and Conditions of Employment

2 satisfactory references are required, one which must be from a previous
employer

Successful applicants must evidence their right to work in the UK ( under the
Asylum and Immigration Act). This will be evidenced in the first instance by a
passport or other forms of ID that will be outlined if no passport is available.

6 months probationary period


Benefits

20 days leave rising 1 extra day a year every April (following completion of
probationary period) up to a maximum of 5 extra days
