JOB TITLE: Music and Worship Coordinator

ACCOUNTABLE/REPORTS TO: Senior Pastor

PRIMARY PURPOSE : The Music and Worship Coordinator will work closely with other staff and congregational members to coordinate music programs and facilitate worship themes, special music, dramas, video etc into the services as needed. The goal is to serve as a leader in enhancing and supporting a vibrant worship experience at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

QUALIFICATIONS: Familiar with Lutheran theology and worship; experience and knowledge of contemporary and traditional worship styles; proficiency in piano and organ; high sense of personal ethics, good interpersonal and organizational skills, and ability to work as a team with other church staff members; a commitment to the mission and ministry of the church; ability and desire to work with people of all ages as a director and/or consultant.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Music and Worship Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation, and evaluation of music programs at Immanuel. The Music and

Worship Coordinator will encourage a high level of lay involvement, with both adults and youth, for contemporary and traditional worship styles.

Communication, Planning & Scheduling a.

Work with the pastoral staff in planning the worship themes. b.

Schedule choirs, drama groups, bell choirs, and other groups during worship. c.

Assist in choosing music and material that is compatible with the themes. d.

Schedule accompaniment for all worship services including the three Sunday and one Wednesday evening worship. e.

Prepare or schedule all special music for all services.

Coordination, Professional Talents & Services a.

Coordinate scheduling of all vocal, instrumental, and dramatic groups and directors.

This includes publicity and mailings that apply to all music/drama groups as a whole.

(Individual directors to be responsible for publishing of the schedules, recruiting of members, and care of properties such as music, music folders and robes, etc. for their group.) b.

Serve as an ex-officio member of the Music and Worship Committee assisting in all appropriate areas, especially long range planning including budgeting and special events. c.

Will assist and advise directors of instrumental and vocal groups and may be called to direct several groups as needed and time allows.

Recruitment & Membership Involvement a.

Actively support the involvement of congregation members in worship, including special music (musicals, Advent programs, etc) and serve as a resource in the selection of music and/or drama for Promiseland, Vacation Bible School, and other youth and/or adult programs. b.

Actively seek, encourage, and develop new individual/group talent for Immanuel’s music programs with a special emphasis on encouraging youth participation. This may also include talent from outside the congregation.

Administrative Responsibilities a.

Submit bulletin information in a timely manner. Obtain appropriate copyright permission and abide by copyright laws. b.

Stay professionally current by attending seminars and/or memberships in professional organizations, and work with staff on determining how best to integrate diverse styles and or elements in the worship experience of Immanuel. c.

Attend weekly staff meetings. d.

Perform other duties as may be assigned in keeping with the nature of the position and the abilities of the candidate.

Teach, lead, and share consistent with the teachings and practices of the Lutheran faith. c.

Jesus Christ through worship, study, and prayer.
