GENERAL
Qualifications and industry experience
Teachers who have recent and relevant qualifications or experience may seek entry to, or exemption from, some
components of training or may claim eligibility to teach additional units of competency. All teachers are required to
complete an orientation program.
Teachers who are accepted into the training program can seek exemptions from any or all of the components of the
training program via the Non Standard Exemption Form. Teachers may then also seek formal RPL from the RTO
providing the Industry specific training. Applications must be supported by primary documented evidence of recent
and relevant experience and/or qualifications, mapped against the competencies to be delivered in schools.
Deliver units not listed
Teachers wishing to deliver any units of competency from the specialisation study that are not listed above must:
1. Have achieved the unit(s) of competency and hold a transcript for the unit(s) of competency or equivalence
2. Discuss the delivery of the unit(s) of competency with their diocesan vocational education adviser prior to
delivery
3. If delivery is supported by the RTO, provide a copy of the transcript for the unit(s) of competency to their school
sector to obtain additional accreditation and approval to deliver the requested unit(s) of competency
Credentials are required to be verified by a third party. It is considered a conflict of interest by the QRRRC for an RTO
to credential qualifications to their own teachers.
Non-standard Entry or Exemption
Allows a person’s formal and informal learning and work experience be assessed against specific criteria or
requirements.
When applying for non-standard entry/ exemption teachers need to provide appropriate evidence (qualifications,
skills and/or experience) to meet the specific requirements for the nominated syllabus/course and teacher
training program.
D. What is considered “appropriate” evidence?
Authentic: Relate to your skills and knowledge. To ensure authenticity, your evidence may need to be
certified or verified by a Principal, work supervisor or other relevant “reliable person”.
Current:
Evidence must be recent and describe what you can currently do.
Relevant: Evidence must be clearly related to the course and teacher training requirements for the
specific industry framework.
Sufficient: You must present sufficient evidence. If the committee is unable to make a decision based
on the evidence provided, it may request further evidence to support your application.
Practical: Evidence needs to be paper-based. If you wish to submit evidence of a project you have
completed, you should submit clear photographs that have been certified by an appropriate
and reliable person and/or written descriptions of your contribution to the project (also certified
by a third party).
Forms of evidence include:
o
o

etc.

Your supporting evidence will assist the ICF Qualifications Recognition and Resource Requirements
Committee (QRRRC) to determine whether your skills, experience and qualifications meet the requirements.
