VET TEACHER TRAINING SUMMARY – 2010 BUSINESS SERVICES Requirements to enter the program The minimum requirement for a teacher to enter the program is a teaching qualification with a major in one or more of the following subject specialisations: Business Studies Economics Commerce familiarity with and understanding of computer keyboard functions. Testamur of pre-service teaching training. Qualifications are to be credentialed by a third party. Industry specific training On completion of the industry specific training teachers will be issued with a Certificate II in Business BSB20107. Refer to the following page for the list of units that teachers will be eligible to deliver and assess. Skills development Teachers are provided with guidelines for placement during the orientation program. The placement focuses on the following units in a business workplace context; communicate in the workplace; participate in workplace safety procedures; work effectively in a business environment; handle mail; use business technology; prepare and process financial/business documents; provide information to clients and maintain business resources. Teachers from other Key Learning areas (KLAs) with relevant industry experience and/or qualifications may seek entry to the VET Construction training program through the recognition of prior learning (RPL) process. As a result, courses within this framework may require joint delivery within or across schools. Approved training program - Entertainment The approved training program is designed to address any skills gaps identified through the recognition process. Only teachers who have achieved significant recognition will be eligible for entry into the training program. APPROVED TEACHER TRAINING PROGRAM Orientation All teachers are required to complete an orientation program. Industry Specific Training The Bridging course and Certificate III program at NIDA Senior First Aid Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA40104) DURATION 2 days 9 days 1 day plus online pre-training Flexible Teachers who complete and the full Cert III program at NIDA will be awarded the units listed below. Industry specific training Training covers contemporary retail practices, marketing and advertising, legal and financial controls, merchandising, buying, point of sale, security and inventory management. An industry site visit is included. Skills Development The industry placement is integral to the training program. Teachers are required to complete two placements, one of 4 days duration and one of 5 days. One placement should be in a small retailer and the other in a large retailer. It is preferable that one placement be completed prior to industry specific training. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAA40104) DURATION 2 days 5 days 9 days Flexible GENERAL Qualifications and industry experience Teachers who have recent and relevant qualifications or experience may seek entry to, or exemption from, some components of training or may claim eligibility to teach additional units of competency. All teachers are required to complete an orientation program. Teachers who are accepted into the training program can seek exemptions from any or all of the components of the training program via the Non Standard Exemption Form. Teachers may then also seek formal RPL from the RTO providing the Industry specific training. Applications must be supported by primary documented evidence of recent and relevant experience and/or qualifications, mapped against the competencies to be delivered in schools. Deliver units not listed Teachers wishing to deliver any units of competency from the specialisation study that are not listed above must: 1. Have achieved the unit(s) of competency and hold a transcript for the unit(s) of competency or equivalence 2. Discuss the delivery of the unit(s) of competency with their diocesan vocational education adviser prior to delivery 3. If delivery is supported by the RTO, provide a copy of the transcript for the unit(s) of competency to their school sector to obtain additional accreditation and approval to deliver the requested unit(s) of competency Credentials are required to be verified by a third party. It is considered a conflict of interest by the QRRRC for an RTO to credential qualifications to their own teachers. Non-standard Entry or Exemption Allows a person’s formal and informal learning and work experience be assessed against specific criteria or requirements. When applying for non-standard entry/ exemption teachers need to provide appropriate evidence (qualifications, skills and/or experience) to meet the specific requirements for the nominated syllabus/course and teacher training program. D. What is considered “appropriate” evidence? Authentic: Relate to your skills and knowledge. To ensure authenticity, your evidence may need to be certified or verified by a Principal, work supervisor or other relevant “reliable person”. Current: Evidence must be recent and describe what you can currently do. Relevant: Evidence must be clearly related to the course and teacher training requirements for the specific industry framework. Sufficient: You must present sufficient evidence. If the committee is unable to make a decision based on the evidence provided, it may request further evidence to support your application. Practical: Evidence needs to be paper-based. If you wish to submit evidence of a project you have completed, you should submit clear photographs that have been certified by an appropriate and reliable person and/or written descriptions of your contribution to the project (also certified by a third party). Forms of evidence include: o o o o o o o Academic transcripts Copies of certificates and other statements gained by completing training programs References or testimonials (preferably on letterhead) from colleagues Written descriptions of work-based experience, verified by a third party Clear photographs, reports or written descriptions of projects verified by project manager etc. Extracts from performance review documents (no confidential details included) Projects or assignments completed as part of a formal education process. Your supporting evidence will assist the ICF Qualifications Recognition and Resource Requirements Committee (QRRRC) to determine whether your skills, experience and qualifications meet the requirements.
