Our youth arm, Bollocks to Poverty, gives young people the chance to campaign on issues like hunger and climate change, or fundraise for ActionAid through music and creativity. Our online channel and social networking sites enable young people to explore global issues and connect with young people worldwide. 1 Role title: Youth Digital Intern Division: Communications Department: Schools and Youth Engagement Reporting to: Youth and Learning Digital Content Producer Role purpose: To maximise the Youth Team’s online social networks. Research influential youth websites and help develop and implement traffic improvement activities. Key contacts: (internal and external) Internal: Youth and Learning Digital Content Producer, Youth Engagement Team members, Website and EComms Manager, other Digital Communications team members. External: Social network users, education and youth related websites editors, ‘key influencers’ e.g. trusted external bloggers. Date: Jan 2010 Key accountabilities Key elements Social Networks Helping to grow ActionAid’s youth (‘Bollocks to Poverty’) social networks - updating content and recruiting new followers and friends. Help to create and implement promotional activities that will engage a youth audience. Research Research potential partnerships with influential music, news and youth activism bloggers and websites. Seeding Promote ActionAid’s online youth content to influential bloggers and websites. 2 Required skills, knowledge and experience: Solid experience of using Facebook and MySpace in a personal or professional capacity. Experience of using YouTube and Twitter. Familiarity with features, functionality and etiquette of all the above social networking platforms. An understanding of the possibilities of social media, especially in engaging young people. An interest in online trends. Good writing skills. A commitment to ActionAid UK’s vision, mission and values. Desired skills, knowledge and experience: Experience of using Facebook to promote a brand/cause Experience of writing blogs, or writing for the web. Experience of uploading live web content (e.g. twittering, video blogging or blogging from events) Knowledge of news or youth activism bloggers and websites.
