Anglia Ruskin University employs around 2,000 members of staff and has approximately 25,000 students. There are two main campuses in Chelmsford and Cambridge, as well links with a number of partner institutions throughout the region and internationally.
Our Articles of Government set out the governance framework and states that Anglia Ruskin

The Board of Governors is responsible for the determination of the educational character and mission of Anglia Ruskin and the setting of our general strategic direction. More general responsibilities cover finance, property and staffing of Anglia Ruskin University.
The Act stipulates that there be will be up to 24 Board members, made up of a majority of independent members. The Board conducts its business through sub-committees that bring recommendations to the Main Board at regularly scheduled meetings.
The Vice Chancellor has a general responsibility to the Board of Governors for the organisation, direction and management of Anglia Ruskin University.

VISIONS
______________________________________________________________________
We are passionate about the advancement of knowledge and the education of students.
We take university education in imaginative new directions.
We are important to the region and want to be viewed in the UK and internationally as exceptional.
Our key contribution is to the enhancement of social, cultural and economic well being.
Specifically, we are working to ensure that:
9 out of 10 students would recommend us to a friend; each Faculty’s teaching receives public endorsement of its quality overall and is recognised as a
UK leader in one or more of it disciplines; each Faculty hosts one or more international standard research centres;
25% of our activity is at postgraduate level and we award at least 50 PhDs across at least 10 disciplines each year; we educate an equal number of students off-site and on-site, through remote delivery partnerships at home and abroad, and distance learning;
Anglia Ruskin at Cambridge and Anglia Ruskin at Chelmsford are known as magnets for overseas students and 20% of our UK campus-based students are from outside the EU; every student may study entrepreneurship and 10% of our students chose self employment when they leave us; every year, we help at least 2000 organisations with Knowledge Exchange in particular, through a range of on-campus business incubator facilities; we are recognised for successful innovation in the way in which services are provided and for imaginative new learning environments; we are champions of employer and community engagement; and we readily attract talented staff and prepare everyone to achieve our goals through continuing staff development.

BRIEF HISTORY
______________________________________________________________________
Anglia Ruskin University has its origins in the Cambridge School of Art, which was opened in 1858 by John Ruskin and which later became the Cambridgeshire College of Arts and Technology
(CCAT) in 1960.
Meanwhile, in Chelmsford Lord Rayleigh laid a foundation stone in 1904 in Market Road for the first purpose built FE buildings in Chelmsford. The Mid-Essex Technical College and School of Art was established in 1935, which later merged with Brentwood College of Education to become the
Chelmer Institute of Higher Education.
In 1984 the Chelmer Institute became the Essex Institute of Higher Education.
In 1989 CCAT merged with the Essex Institute of Higher Education to form the Anglia Higher
Education College. In 1991 the merged college became a polytechnic and was known as Anglia
Polytechnic – a name that remained even after the award of university status in 1992.
Anglia Polytechnic University was the last in the country to retain the word polytechnic in its title and eventually changed its name to Anglia Ruskin University, following Privy Council approval on
29 September 2005.
