From September 15th – October 15th, Nike partnered with Miami-Dade High School students on a
creative challenge, encouraging students to create an artistic expression of their own Hispanic
PRIDE. At the event, Nike announced that every Miami-Dade student who submitted artwork
would receive a pair of Nike’s Limited Edition Hispanic Pride shoes. Only 500 pairs of the shoe
were produced in the US. The shoes are not available for sale.
The Nike All Court shoe design incorporates a technique known as Piteado, a popular method
used on leather belts and boots throughout Latin America. The word “Pride” is displayed on the
shoe to reflect the lifestyle of Hispanics living in the United States and the font used was made
famous by the low rider culture of the southwest. The ornate floral details also encourage
freedom of expression while the rich jewel tone colors of brown, yellow and green combine to
give the shoe a unique appearance. Colors also reflect cultural life essentials such as coffee
beans reflecting brown shades and island life through neutral tones. The product was created by
Nike designer Kiki McGhee.
