Other ways to meet English Language RequirementTests and Scores or Bridging Programs
http://www.adm.utoronto.ca/admissions/?p1=true&domain=adm&page=ept_toefl
1.TOEFL: internet based minimum requirement. Total score of 100+ 22 on Writing
Discretionary Range: Total score of 89-99 + 19-21 on Writing
Paper based: Total score of 600+5.0 on TWE. Discretionary range 573-597+4.5 on TWE.
TOEFL institution code for undergraduate studies at U of T is 0982-00.
2.IELTS: Overall band of 6.5, with no band below 6.0.
3. Academic Culture and English Program (ACE) www.uoft.me/utmace
4. International Foundation Program (IFP) – A Pathway to U of T for international
students. IFP is a unique offering that combines conditional acceptance to the University of
Toronto with intensive English language instruction and for-credit courses. The IFP is
available to academically qualified international students whose English fluency scores do
not meet the University of Toronto’s direct entrance requirements.
Successful completion of the IFP guarantees admission to the Faculty of Arts & Science,
Faculty of Applied Science & Engineering, the John H. Daniels Faculty of Architecture,
Landscape & Design, or the Faculty of Music with academic credit towards your
undergraduate degree. http://www.ifp.utoronto.ca/
Note: Normally English 12 is required for admission. Students who are required to present
an acceptable English test like TOEFL, can use another academic Gr. 12 course in place of
English 12.
Bridging Programs – The Academic Bridging Program, Woodsworth College, St. George
Campus and U of T Mississauga Bridging Pathway provide an opportunity for Canadian
citizens/permanent residents who do not hole the published admission requirements to
qualify for a degree programs. www.wdw.utoronto.ca Page 5
Preparation for University Math Program ( PUMP) is a non-credit course for students
who have not taken high school mathematics prerequisites for university calculus and linear
algebra. Helps students to succeed in first year mathematics courses.
http://www.math.utoronto.ca/cms/pump/
Submission of marks/ transcripts: Complete the PSI choices form online. New for this year
is self-reporting of grades. Students can upload transcripts and also self-report marks from JOIN
UofT portal.
College System- Arts and Science : Students must rank the seven colleges in order of
preference on the OUAC application. College membership has no bearing on a student's
academic program -- their college is their home base on campus and provides essential
services like academic and personal counselling, extra-curricular activities, and residence.
Residence is attached to a college. Regardless of college membership, all students in the
Faculty have access to all programs. So how does one decide? Research is key. Students
can change colleges when application is under review. 3 colleges- Innes, Trinity and
Victoria- require you to list them as their first choice. Tip- Woodsworth is very popular,
especially with Rotman commerce students, so rank is as your first choice if that’s your
choice. http://www.artsci.utoronto.ca/futurestudents/colleges
Admission Categories: Students are asked to indicate their major interest at the time of
application. This does not lock in a student. First year is common. Lot’s of time to decide
later. Program Choice: When applying to the Faculty of Arts & Science, St. George campus,
students must choose one of six general admission categories: Commerce, Computer
Science, Humanities, Social Sciences, Life Sciences and Mathematical and Physical
Sciences. Students may only choose one of these categories. Subject of major interest (e.g.
program of study) U of T does not use this information when making our admissions
decisions. Students enrol in a program (e.g. biochemistry) at the end of their first year.
Rotman Commerce: Admission is extremely competitive. Admission average in the mid
80s and only the first attempt will be considered for repeated courses (same as engineering).
Online profile required. Supplemental application to Rotman Commerce now has two
components: a written essay (not timed) and a timed video (1 hour to submit).
