Center for Clinical Education and Research Clinical Tutoring Referral Policy & Responsibilities (Student version) How services will be initiated Faculty must communicate with the student that they have submitted a referral to the CCER. Once a referral is received, the student will receive an email from the CCER within 48 hours (Mon-Fri) indicating the need for tutoring. Students should reply to the email for help in scheduling the initial session or can come to the CCER and ask for assistance in signing up for the initial session. If no contact is returned by the student, a 2nd email will be sent within 5 working days of the first email. If the student fails to contact the CCER after the 2nd email notification, no more email attempts will be made to contact the student. Faculty will be notified by email if no contact has been established after the 2nd email attempt. For a successful tutoring session Always bring stethoscope, textbooks, syllabus, copy of the clinical evaluation form, along with other relevant materials. Expect to be actively involved in working problems, discussing clinical material, completing case studies or participating in simulated experiences. Be on time for sessions. Notify the CCER if you will be late (617-287-7611). Policies for referrals Tutors and tutees are expected to work with all persons without bias or prejudice. Tutees should notify the CCER as soon as it is known that there is a need to miss a scheduled session (at least 12 hours notice). In an emergency, this notification should take place as soon as possible (617-287-7611). Tutoring can be terminated after two "no-shows", repeated cancellations, or lack of participation. Tutoring is limited to 2 hours per week. Longer time allotments will be on a case by case basis and at the discretion of the staff of the CCER. Tutors are not required to work with students beyond scheduled sessions – sessions 100 minutes in duration. Every effort will be made to have a student see the same tutor (Primary) for all sessions if the schedule of the tutor and tutee allows. After the first tutoring session, students will sign up for subsequent sessions in the tutoring book at the CCER main desk. Sessions will be scheduled with the primary tutor whenever possible. A secondary tutor will be used if scheduling does not allow. If a student needs assistance in signing up for additional sessions, please ask the Tutor or Soma Dutt for assistance. Additional policies for students also on clinical warning (at risk for failure) Faculty will identify on the referral that the student has been placed on clinical warning. A copy of the Student at Risk for Clinical/Internship Failure Warning Form will be provided to the CCER. Tutoring sessions will focus on the unmet clinical objectives identified by the faculty. Communication Tutors and tutees may NOT exchange contact information and will not have contact outside of the tutoring session. At the completion of a tutoring session, the tutor will email the faculty a session summary. The tutor will provide the student with verbal feedback on their performance.
