To help them make a more informed choice you agree to train their board members on the fundamentals of computer systems. As an introduction to this training you prepare a report contrasting the functions of different types of operating systems. You go on to give a practical demonstration of the creation of user environments and systems for a computer user. Task 1 (Assessment Criteria 2.1) Write a report comparing the functions of operating systems for personal computers, networked computers and mainframe computers, (for example a network operating system has to allow data files to be shared between users while a stand alone PC does not). Task 2 (Assessment Criteria 2.2) The following customising tasks will be witnessed and signed off by your tutor, using the checklist for task 2. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Create a new folder. Customise the start menu by adding 2 new shortcuts. Backup files to disc. Install a program. Remove a program. Replace the screen saver by a new one. Change the background of the desktop. This checklist must be handed in with your report. Deliverables An informal report comparing the functions of different types of operating systems. A signed off checklist for task 2.
