Introduction
You have been retained as a consultant by Appledore Accountants plc to advise on
the choice of operating system and application software for their new computer
system. To help them make a more informed choice you agree to train their board
members on the fundamentals of computer systems. As an introduction to this
training you prepare a report contrasting the functions of different types of operating
systems.
You go on to give a practical demonstration of the creation of user environments and
systems for a computer user.
Task 1
(Assessment Criteria 2.1)
Write a report comparing the functions of operating systems for personal computers,
networked computers and mainframe computers, (for example a network operating
system has to allow data files to be shared between users while a stand alone PC
does not).
Task 2
(Assessment Criteria 2.2)
The following customising tasks will be witnessed and signed off by your tutor, using
the checklist for task 2.
