Micro #276 Course Objectives
Students should understand and be able to describe the following aspects of
virology.
(1) The classification of viruses into families based on shared properties and the
physical and biological properties of these viruses, particularly those that cause
human diseases.
(2) The aspects of virus replication that each virus must accomplish (such as entry
into a cell, replication of its genome, egress from the cell) and the variety of ways in
which these steps can be achieved.
(3) The ways in which viruses interact with and manipulate cell components and
processes in order to enhance their replication.
(4) Where appropriate, the experimental approaches that have been (or are being)
used to address questions related to the first three objectives.
