Dance PLYMOUTH Dance Dance Platform - The Lyric Stage, Theatre Royal Plymouth Saturday 25th July @ 7:30pm Deadline for applications to perform 5pm Friday 20th February 2015 Plymouth Dance is inviting Plymouth based youth dance groups (including school groups) to audition to be a part of a special evening of youth dance on the Lyric Stage at The Theatre Royal on the 25th July. The evening will be the final showcase in a year that has profiled and celebrated youth dance in the city, as the host city of U.Dance 2015. If you think your youth dance group has what it takes to wow Plymouth audiences the first step is to complete the application and email it to udance2015@plymouthdance.org.uk by 5pm on the 20th February 2015. All applications will be carefully considered by our panel of experts: June Gamble (Coordinating Producer of Plymouth Dance), Benjamin Dunks (Artistic Director of Attik Dance), Jules Laville (Dance Director Barbican Theatre), Maryam Pourian (Vice Principal Hartley House Dance Club), Claire Summers (U.Dance 2015 Project Coordinator, Plymouth Dance) and Victoria Allen (Creative Learning Director, Theatre Royal) Successful groups will be invited to audition on Saturday 21st March at TR2 and if you are offered an audition you must be available with your group for the whole day. CRITERIA Your group must meet in an area with a Plymouth postcode (although preference will be given to those who meet within the Plymouth City Council boundaries) Age range 5 – 25 years Applications from Solos, Duos, Trios and small group numbers are welcomed To ensure there is a diverse range of work we would also encourage applications from all dance styles and inclusive groups Dance leaders are not expected to perform as part of the group – your group should be ready to perform on stage independently In partnership with Ideal length of piece 3 - 7 minutes Ideal number of participants no more than 20 (If these criteria present a problem for your group please talk to us about it) You must be able to provide appropriate music on CD or via email 7 days before the performance (please take care - any music with words must not contain bad language and you must be able to prove that you have permission to use your music – to avoid copyright issues, we would advise that you commission music. To obtain permission you must write to the publisher to ask for written permission to use their track. If you are editing the music in any way you must also apply for mechanical rights. We have a template letter available if you should need one. Any style of dance – the piece needs to work in a conventional theatre performance setting Age appropriate costume and movement NB We will do our best to include all groups which meet the criteria and are ready to take part in this audition, but if we receive more applications than we can see in one day, selection will be at the discretion of Plymouth Dance and the selection panel. You will be informed whether or not you have an audition slot by Monday 2nd March 2015. If after auditioning your group is chosen to perform at the platform, attendance is expected for the whole day on the 25th July – exact timetable to be confirmed and for a technical rehearsal on either Monday 20th or Tuesday 21st TBC in the evening.
