Students selected for this honor should meet certain criteria in order to ensure that the integrity of your program is accurately displayed during competitions. THE FIRST STEP to selecting competitors is conducting an In-House Competition. When you’ve established your top four finalists, the following points should be addressed: Is this student interested in competing on the district level? Competition will take place during a school day, but does extend into the evening. If a student is apprehensive about competition, take this time to encourage him/her and remind the student of all the ways SkillsUSA can benefit them. Your chapter advisors can help you with this. Is this student willing to prepare for the competition? This may include staying after school, studying at home, etc. Is this student enthusiastic, determined, and motivated to be a part of SkillsUSA and its activities? Is this student in good standing in all of his/her other courses? Is this student in good standing with the disciplinary staff? If the answer to all of the above is YES, then you have found yourself a District Competitor! Remember: only students who meet these criteria should be included in your list of district competitors! Do not forward the names of students who will not be competing in March! STUDY THE PDP WITH QUIZLET!
