The Contender Project Choose one of the following choices for your project. Choice 1: Design a new cover for the book. Fold a sheet of paper in half so that you can design both the front and the back covers. For the front cover, draw the a picture based on images from the book. Write the title and the author’s name in neat writing either at the top or at the bottom of the page. The back cover should include a short telling of the plot of the book. It should tell readers what the book is about and spark their interest without giving away the entire plot. The back cover should also include a critic’s review of the book saying how great the book is. Choice 2: Design a poster for the film version of the book. Draw a design using an idea from the book that covers almost all of the paper. Your design should have something to do with the plot of the book: some characters, the setting of Harlem, items having to do with boxing. Write the title of the movie in large letters at the top. Include the phrase “based on the novel by Robert Lipsyte” under the title. Then write a significant quote from the story that really gets to what the book is about. Add a comment from a movie reviewer about how great the movie is. Lastly, pick an actor to play the role of Alfred, and put his name on the poster. You will have class time to work on the project. It is due tomorrow. You can complete another project for extra credit. Check that you have completed all the requirements for your project.
