All teaching assignments must be approved on a semester to semester base. Research faculty can supervise students - both undergraduates and graduates. SD11-07 - WL Core curriculum is up for university senate approval on Feb. 20th, 2012. As soon as it is approved, university system should work on the possibilities of intercampus transfers of core courses. If Trimester is adopted by WL, it may impact credit transfer between Purdue Calumet and WL. Intercampus Faculty Council – can stop any policy at any campus for up to 90 days Dual credit – WL has none; another regional campus has many – The issues are cost; quality control issues; faculty Senate approval necessary IFC passed two motions. One is to encourage an annual department head meeting across campuses. The second one is to state the importance of governance bodies providing inputs regarding the issue paper of 'Enhancing Purdue System Effectiveness and Efficiency with a Focus on the Regional Campuses'. GAPS policy sent back to University Senate Student Affairs committee for revision Tazbir questioned whether we can be videotaped and recorded in a Senate meeting? Eisenstein – As long as one party agrees (that one party can include the person doing the recording), it can be done can. E. Committee Reports Agenda Committee – Professor Michael Dobberstein SD 12-01 – A Proposal for the Formation of the Faculty Committee on Censure and Dismissal Proceedings at Purdue University Calumet – for discussion Revised SD 12-01 document (as added by amendment to the agenda) Related to new grievance procedures Senate to elect from this pool Clarification that this an ad hoc committee; referred to B-4 and B48 – Eisenstein Proposal to revise existing policy on how committee is formed - Dobberstein PURDUE UNIVERSITY CALUMET UNIVERSITY SENATE MEETING Minutes from this point forward submitted by Prof. Casey Barczyk: Eisenstein: If a Faculty Committee on Censure and Dismissal is established, members should be well versed in First Amendment Right protections and in all of the established Purdue procedures Kozel: If the committee is populated, it should be stipulated that individuals on the committee should be informed of regulations and rules associated with Executive Memorandum B-48. This was acceptable to Professor Eisenstein. Barczyk: The re-named SD 12-01 should be revised so that the word “candidates” in the first sentence is replaced with “full professors.” Barczyk argued that full professors be named to the committee because the matters brought up to the committee are of great magnitude, which should be reconciled by faculty at the highest level, much like full professors help decide promotion cases for assistant/associate professors. He suggested that if full professors make decisions on the promotion of assistants/associates at the primary committee level, area level, and university level, they should also be involved in any action to censure or dismiss a professor. In many cases full professors have more years at the university and a fuller appreciation of Purdue values than faculty at other ranks. He argued further that full professors no longer seek promotion, so there is less fear in displeasing administrators who may have influence over the promotional opportunities of assistant and associate professors. Eisenstein: Agreed with Barczyk’s position for having only full professors on the committee because it would be inappropriate for associate professors to make decisions on the possible dismissal of a full professor. Falk: Stated that the version of SD 12-01 was confusing and should be re-worded. He pointed out that the document makes reference to the Grievance Hearing Committee in the second sentence and then in the third sentence mention is made of “the committee”, which could mean the Grievance Hearing Committee (by way of sentence structure) or the Committee on Censure and Dismissal. The fourth sentence then reverts back to a discussion of the Grievance Hearing Committee. He thought that this wording was confusing and he urged the Agenda Committee to revise the document to eliminate ambiguity and vagueness. Wang: Stated that the document is university policy and could not be changed. Senate Chair Cherry: Indicated that the document would be revised and presented for action at the next University Senate meeting.
