Week 1: Music History B—1920’s Eventually, the classical and neoclassical sounds of music were rivaled by popular new forms such as swing, folk, and jazz. Jazz is considered the genre of music to truly blossom in and captivate the 1920’s. Go to the following link: http://www.historylearningsite.co.uk/1920's_America.htm and read about what was happening in America during the Jazzy 1920’s. Take note while reading, and be prepared to answer the following questions: Describe what a ‘flapper’ is. What was the first ‘talkie’ movie and when did it come out? How would you describe the overall attitude of the 1920’s? How did the music fit into this attitude? Look up one of the following three musical artists: Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong, and Benny Goodman. Name three songs for which the artist of your choice is famous, and describe what the song is about, and how that would have fit in with the ‘Roaring 20’s.’
