Chemistry Lab Report Rubric
Experiment: Percent Yield
Hand this paper in with your lab report for grading!
Section
Requirements
Purpose
Single statement describing what you were trying to
learn in this lab.
In complete sentences, describe the experiment you
performed & what you measured.
- Be Specific.
- Write in complete sentences in paragraph
form.
- Include the correct names for
chemicals/equipment used.
1. Correctly labeled data table or list of data obtained.
- You should have recorded this already on
your lab sheet. You just need to rewrite it
into your lab report.
2. Be sure to include your observations for each day.
1. Complete all of the calculations that are asked of
you on the lab sheet.
- Each calculation should be labeled.
- All work should be shown.
- Make sure all numbers have units.
These can be hand written or typed – but it should be
done neatly.
In complete sentences answer the following questions
in paragraph form (NO NUMBERING OF QUESTIONS):
1. How do you know a chemical reaction occurred?
Write the equation for the reaction that occurred.
Write the word description of the reaction that
occurred. What type of chemical reaction is this?
2. Define theoretical yield. According to your BCA
table, what was your theoretical yield of copper? of
iron (II) sulfate?
3. Define actual yield. According to your
calculations, what was your actual yield of copper?
Why did we only measure the yield of copper and not
iron (II) sulfate? How could you have gotten the yield
of iron (II) sulfate?
4. Based on your numbers, what was your percent
yield? Account for some reasons why you did not
obtain 100% yield.
5. Define limiting reactant. What was your limiting
reactant in this lab? How do you know? How much
(in grams) of the excess reactant remained after the
reaction took place?
1. Each section should be labeled, neat, & organized.
2. There should be no spelling or grammar mistakes.
3. The Design and Conclusion sections should be
written in complete sentences.
