How to create a word search puzzle with Puzzlemaker for the
school Newspaper
1. Click on Internet Explorer.
2. On the address bar, type: www.puzzlemaker.com
3. In the yellow box, in the second column, click on word search from
the choice menu.
4. STEP 1: Give your puzzle a fun title in CAPITAL LETTERS
5. STEP 2: The size of your puzzle should be:
number of letters
across: 12
number of letters down: 12
6. STEP 3: Choose the second choice—share letters occasionally.
7. STEP 4: Output type: This is important because you are going to
copy and paste your puzzle to an Open Office document when the
finished puzzle appears—make sure you choose the 2nd option:
Text. Chose this option if you plan on cutting and pasting the puzzle to a
different application.
8. STEP 5: Read the directions to the step. Make a list of your wordsthat is the easiest way to do it. Enter your words with correct
spelling! Before you go to step 6, ask an editor to edit check your
spelling.
9. STEP 6: Read directions to this step, too. Sometimes an
inappropriate word is formed when a puzzle is randomly created.
Proofread your puzzle before you copy and paste it.
10. STEP 7: If you have proofread and created your new puzzle, you now
have to copy and paste your puzzle to an Open Office Writer new
document. Make sure your margins (not tabs) are 0-3 inches for a
column space first.
11. Good work! Now save your puzzle in the “To Be Edited” folder!
