Headstart report: Headstart students will start September 16th Treasurer Report: Around $8242.00 in PTC account and $2500.00 in the carnival account. (It was noted that the $250 per classroom (that the PTC voted in June to deposit in each class account for field trips) has not year been deducted from our account. Shelley and Angie will get that process going so each class has a field trip account to start the year. o A/R Reading software: The cost for 321 students is around $2700.00. **Update with the STAR assessment which is important for teachers to be able to assess where the students reading levels are or have decreased / increased brings the total cost is $3720.10. o Portland Opera To Go: “Portland Opera To Go seeks to provide children, educators and communities with the opportunity to engage in the magical, riveting, rewarding world of opera by producing high quality, accessible programming in communities throughout Oregon and SW Washington.” 3rd - 5th graders would be able to participate in this event that would be traveling to the High School. Mr. Lake has requested that the PTC consider funding $1.50 per student for the admission cost. This was voted on by the PTC and approved. o Super Self Managers: Students who are continually self managers will be identified by staff as “Super” self managers and once a quarter will be treated to a special treat/event – maybe bowling or pizza? Mr. Knudson will work with the staff on the treat/event. The PTC thought this was a great idea and agreed to partner with the staff and assist with funding. Mr. Knudson will bring more concrete info to the next PTC meeting. o Crossing Guard Partnership: Mr. Knudson proposed an idea for the PTC to partner with the school and assist with funding two crossing guards 1 hour a day, 5 days a week. We all agreed safety was a concern and Mr. Knudson will come back to the October meeting with a proposal. o Concessions money: Melissa will again coordinate concessions at the various school events and we have allotted $300 in start-up money to her efforts. o Purple paper: Shelley purchased a ream of purple paper to be used for PTC fliers throughout the year. o Fred Meyers Reward: $36 was deposited in our account this summer from the families who have linked their Fred Meyer Rewards card to JES. A portion of money spent goes to our school. Thanks to Melissa for signing us up for that. o Room 2 gift: Mrs. Engberg requested assistance from the PTC with her new classroom specifically for storage. The PTC extended the gift of a $50 Staples gift card to her just like we gave each teacher in the spring last year. o Room 21 needs: They are in need of a new projector. They cost around $500.00. Mr. Knudson and the PTC agreed to partner together and each fund half to purchase this for room 21. o 4th grade field trip: The 4th grade teachers have requested an additional $550.00 for field trip funds to Phillip Foster Farms. The PTC gave each classroom $250 at the beginning of the year so the two classes have $500 now. We agreed to fund $50.00 extra to ensure they could go on the field trip later this month. The PTC will consider extra funding for other field trips later in the year. o SLP room needs: The Structured Learning Program is in need of Sensory Station supplies. Sensory materials help students in this class learn to regulate their own sensory needs in a fun, educational way. Shelley passed around a list of needed supplies and people wrote their names next to what they wanted to buy and/or donate. Most, if not all, supplies were covered. Fundraiser – Color Run: Fun way to get the students and community involved and earn money for the school. Looking at Spring of 2015 – Melissa and Fair will coordinate. Cub Pride gear order: Liz will be sending out order forms in October. Fall Book Fair: Will be held from 10/21 – 10/31 and the theme will be “Castle Night”. Ashley and Jessica will be coordinating the Book Fair. Adopt-A-Teacher: Shelley asked for a volunteer to coordinate this year’s adopt-a-teacher. Fair volunteered and will have the sign-up forms at the next meeting. PTC Leadership: Shelley reminded the group that her youngest son is in 4 th grade so she has two more years of being committed to lead the PTC. She suggested an informal nomination or election process in the spring and then having someone shadow her next year (2015/16) to learn the ropes. We will talk more about this in the spring. The good news is the Middle School is not too far away and we know she will support Jefferson no matter what school her children are at. The next PTC meeting is October 14th at 6:00pm.
