Salary Adjustment
Compensation
It is the policy of the Board to provide compensation to newly appointed instructional employees
in an appropriate manner consistent with all agreements with its various employee organizations
and employees. Therefore, based upon this position, the following policy will be effective at the
beginning of each school year.
1. A teacher, teaching assistant, or teacher aide will be compensated from September 1 of
a given school year if that employee is working for Eastern Suffolk BOCES during the
first day of attendance for instructional staff.
2. A teacher, teaching assistant, or teacher aide who begins working after the first day of
attendance for instructional staff will be compensated from the first date of that
employee’s attendance (salary will be prorated).
Advancement/Salary Adjustment
1. Part-Time Teachers
When a part-time teacher is entitled to advancement on the next highest step on an
approved salary schedule, the teacher’s salary will be prorated on the appropriate step
based on his/her percent of part-time employment.
2. Part-Time Teaching Assistants and Teacher Aides
When a part-time teaching assistant or teacher aide is entitled to a salary adjustment
due to the earning of additional college credits, his/her salary will be prorated based on
his/her percent of part-time employment.
3. Teachers, Teaching Assistants, and Teacher Aides Working Less than a Full
School Year
A teacher, teaching assistant, or teacher aide who works less than a full school year as
a result of an approved leave of absence or a beginning date of employment after the
start of the school year will receive advancement on the salary schedule if he/she has
worked in excess of five (5) months during the school year.
