Book of Exodus Chapter 40 Completion of the Tabernacle The time of the completion was important. According to Ex. 40:2, it was the first month, and it was exactly one year after the Passover when the Jews left Egypt (Ex. 40:17). I. The tabernacle was set up A. The tabernacle was furnished B. The tabernacle was anointed II. The priests were set apart A. They were washed at the laver B. They were clothed in their holy garments C. They were anointed for service III. The glory of the Lord settled in A. The Lord’s presence was seen in the tabernacle – in the cloud by day and the fire by night B. The Lord’s presence filled the tabernacle – there was no room for Moses or anyone else C. The Lord’s presence remained in the tabernacle – when God moved, they moved, but when God stayed, they stayed. God led them and was with them all the way to the Promised Land. God fulfilled His promise made in Exodus 33:14-17 And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest. And he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence. For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? is it not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth. And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name. This was God’s dwelling place, a place of worship, and the place where God met with His people. It was not known as “Moses’ tabernacle” or “the tabernacle of Israel,” but it was God’s tabernacle.
