GREENWOOD HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL RECORD BOOK 1933-2008 (591-231-34) (.710) Compiled by DAVID BELL INTRODUCTION The information contained here was primarily derived from researching microfilm records of the IndexJournal newspaper. Notes: Team records are accurate from 1943 (beginning of the Babb era) forward. I believe that all games are accounted for and that the scores are accurate. Prior to 1943, the information is sketchy. Most of the seasons are incomplete but I have tabulated as much as I could find. I’m not sure when Greenwood started playing football, but this goes back to 1933. Scoring records are very complete from 1943 forward. I have accounted for all touchdowns scored since 1943 except for one score against Savannah Commercial in 1952. Extra points and touchdown passes are substantially complete, but there are a number of those missing, particularly prior to 1960. Yardage numbers are dependent on what I could get from newspaper records and are very incomplete at times. The yearly records in the back give an indication of which years I was able to get information. Where possible, I have used information from the school, but nothing exists from the Babb days, some since then. Again, the season pages indicate what may be available. Some information is still under construction, such as the North-South All-Star participants. I think that I have all of the Shrine Bowl players. Any additional information will be welcomed. 2 YEAR W-L-T PF PA SHO YEAR BY YEAR TEAM CAPTAINS 1933 1934 1935 1936 1937 1938 1939 1940 1941 1942 1943 1944 1945 1946 1947 1948 1949 1950 1951 1952 1953 1954 1955 1956 1957 1958 1959 1960 1961 1962 1963 1964 1965 1966 1967 1968 1969 1970 1971 1972 1973 1974 1975 1976 1977 1978 1979 1980 1981 1982 1983 1984 1985 1986 1987 34 18 104 71 59 43 51 84 141 -65 49 60 125 42 38 57 150 117 91 83 38 78 90 33 81 61 65 44 39 38 97 69 92 147 86 118 96 75 84 66 94 133 97 70 143 105 65 94 55 130 130 111 87 138 6 2 1 0 6 5 1 2 1 4 5 4 5 2 7 5 6 1 2 2 2 5 5 3 8 4 3 6 6 6 6 3 2 3 1 6 1 4 3 4 3 3 0 3 4 4 5 6 4 3 1 3 3 4 4 Sonny Byrd, Milton Snipes Rudolph Johnson, Roland Godfrey Vernon Booth, Billy Jones Fred Snyder, Joe Coffey Bo Bannister, Sonny Horton Emory Austin, Hootie Johnson Nate Edmonds, Ronnie Byrd, Don Hilley Bobby Brazell, Lee Capell Buzzy Bowden, Ray Bowick Budgie Broome, Buddy Matthews Ronnie Aughtry, Ronnie Wise Harvey White, Ernest Ray Ouzts, Bill Corley Harvey White, Bill Hughes Jimmy May, Kenny Powell Skeeter Watson, Benny Candler Joe Anderson, Richard Lomas Kenneth Richey, Ronnie Henderson Jimmy Marcengill, Douglas Bell Leon James, Jerry Ledbetter Ted Wingard, Wayne Bell Brush Babb, Brooks Bannister Robby Goldman, Thomas Wingard Tony Goldman, Jerry Posey Tyler Hellams, Lucky Cothran Tappey Squires, Mack Stone, Sammy Harrison Chuck Huntley, Chris Williams Bruce Hines, Lavern Thrailkill Mike Webber, Gerald Witt Glenn Williams, Mike Whaley, James Wideman Glenn Miller, Arby Lagroon Alvin Wideman, Tony Thompson John Kirkland, Robert Morton, Jennings Dorn Steve Muir, Clarence Moss Robert Perlotte, Eddie Estes Steve Lloyd, Preston Threatt Eric Williams, Reid Wightman Kenny Welton, John Thompson Bryant Childs, Craig Glanton Tripp Whitmire, Danny Moore Ricky Saxon, Keith Reardon Mike Leslie, Walter Hawes Mike Perkins, Craig Whitt, Tyler Mosley Ken Fallaw, Sammy Walker Anthony Lagroone, Glenn Hollis Robert Brooks, Brad Russ 7-2-0 2-2-0 0-7-1 1-4-0 5-3-2 6-2-1 2-4-0 1-4-2 0-8-1 3-2-4 9-1-0 8-2-0 8-1-2 7-3-1 11-0-1 10-1-0 12-0-0 4-7-0 10-2-0 7-3-1 6-3-1 8-1-1 12-0-0 6-4-2 9-1-1 8-2-1 10-0-1 9-1-2 10-1-0 10-1-0 10-0-1 7-3-1 9-1-1 9-1-1 7-3-1 12-1-0 5-6-0 6-4-1 8-2-0 8-3-0 7-1-3 7-3-0 11-2-0 12-2-0 5-5-0 9-4-0 11-2-0 8-3-0 11-1-0 *5-6-0 7-5-0 9-3-0 11-2-0 **9-3-0 9-3-0 151 25 13 7 86 122 24 7 13 103 257 201 250 245 268 212 311 163 269 213 131 238 405 182 240 258 247 259 314 330 294 206 207 209 173 415 95 172 256 230 178 202 299 206 144 280 342 247 322 240 217 209 221 222 246 3 1988 1989 1990 1991 1992 1993 1994 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 8-4-0 12-1-0 11-1-0 8-4-0 6-6-0 8-5-0 4-8-0 3-9-0 2-9-0 2-9-0 11-3-0 13-2-0 14-1-0 9-3-0 9-5-0 9-4-0 10-3-0 8-4-0 13-2-0 11-2-0 7-5-0 251 267 291 266 294 333 243 194 126 137 360 539 504 391 337 395 421 424 400 276 253 188 76 97 146 248 234 285 244 289 320 192 224 157 152 238 248 221 258 124 150 179 1 3 2 1 1 1 0 1 0 0 4 1 4 2 0 2 1 2 3 1 1 Chris Liner, Ernest Dye, Larry Ryans Trey Snipes, Jack Owens, Allen Davis Beau Hollingsworth, Robert Moates, Lynn Hodge Fredi Allen, Jeff Kundrat *In 1982, Greenwood forfeited three games due to an ineligible player. The three forfeits were all shutout victories by a combined score of 70-0. The actual points scored are included in the totals above, but the forfeits are not included in the victory or shutout totals. ** In 1986, in the “tear gas game,” Greenwood forfeited to Gaffney rather than complete the game which Greenwood led prior to the incident 9-7. The actual points are included in the totals, but the game is counted as a loss. State Championships: 1948, 1949, 1955, 1957, 1959, 1961, 1962, 1966, 1968, 1976, 1999, 2000, 2006 4 RECORD VS.
