There is a maximum of 100 points, broken into four categories. 70 points and above is a pass. 69 points and below is a no pass. Tardiness and / or unexcused absences will not be acceptable and will seriously impact the final grade. Class Participation This is a seminar and, therefore, considerable time is devoted to class discussion. Class participation is an important aspect of the course, and Interns are expected to actively share their thoughts, ideas, and insights. Mentor Quarterly Evaluation At the conclusion of the quarter, each Mentor will be asked to provide a written evaluation on the quality of the contributions made by his / her Administrative Intern to the department internship. Journal Journal assignments will be given on a weekly basis. Entries must be typed and should be 1-2 pages in length. Journal assignments will be due to the Student Coordinators prior to the beginning of each class. Late submittals will result in a deduction of one point. Team Project This quarter, interns will participate in a Team Project. This project will entail researching and proposing a set of recommendations on an issue of significant importance to UCI. Teams of interns will be randomly assigned into groups of 3. Each intern team will propose a topic and submit this topic to the coordinators for approval. Presentations will need to be clear, persuasive and present salient points. Each intern team will have 8-10 minutes for the presentation. Learning Outcomes Through contact with key campus managers and departments, interns will gain a clearer understanding of how decisions are made in a complex bureaucracy. Through course readings, assignments, team projects and site visits, interns will achieve a better understanding of workplace dynamics and trends. Interns will acquire a better understanding of their own personal values, professional interests, and career goals.
