Member of the Biscayne Bay Campus Art & Design Committee. This committee was formed by
the Vice Provost of Academic Affairs to make decisions involving all phases of the
beautification of the campus and the acquisition of art and sculpture – either by purchase

Student Government Association, which was formed to plan festivities to celebrate the
official renaming of the Biscayne Bay Campus – May 2000.

International University to participate in their panel and present my original paper, “The
First United States Occupation of Haiti,” at the 30th Annual Conference of the Caribbean
Studies Association, held from May 25-June 3, 2005, in Santo Domingo, the Dominican
Republic – December 2004.
Received a travel grant from the Graduate Student Association at Florida Atlantic University to
present my original paper on the subject of Haitian Vodou at the Annual Haitian Studies
Association Conference, which was held in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico – September 2004.

Induction into Theta Alpha Kappa, the National Honor Society for Religious Studies and
Theology (based on high academic achievement) and placement on the National Dean’s List
– March 2003
Received Employee of the Year Award, which is given for exemplary leadership and service to
the Florida International University community – December 2000.
Received award from the Office of the Vice Provost, Biscayne Bay Campus, for my role in
creating the first permanent Art Gallery to be established on that Campus. The main
objective of the gallery was to provide a venue for the displaying of artwork created by
students, faculty and staff of the University as well as that of talented high school
students and members of the community – September 2000

Have primary responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the office, a largely selfsufficient unit (with the Coordinator being the primary on-site administrator), and of its
support services; serve as coordinator of all faculty activities on campus; serve as liaison
to the Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs on the Biscayne Bay Campus and
as representative of The Honors College at all campus events; make orientation
presentations about The Honors College to all incoming and prospective Honors College
students; serve as student advisor; teach Freshman Year Experience and Honors
Leadership courses for Honors College students.

Handled a wide variety of responsibilities involving the clerical and administrative
functioning of the office. Responsible for recruitment, retaining, and training of office
staff; instituted professional rules and regulations for the running of the office; received
and distributed work requests from faculty; monitored, for quality, completeness, and
timeliness, all work done by the staff; served as design consultant and project manager in
the creation of a new state-of-the-art, 45-station computer lab built for College of
Business classes and student use – coordinated the work of electrical, building, and
painting contractors, along with that of an audio-visual company, and others, to keep
project on schedule and make certain all work was done according to specifications;
served as liaison between the College of Business on the Biscayne Bay campus, the
Office of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs on the campus, and the departmental
administrators of other units; handled all faculty, staff and student complaints that could

be resolved without consultation with other College or University administrators;
approved and monitored ordering, storing, and distribution of all office and computer
supplies and equipment.

Administrative Assistant to the Dean, College of Health Sciences, December 1996 to March
1998.
Managed all aspects of the office/building, which included, but was not limited to, safety
matters, planning and supervising of office expansion, design of new office space and
selection of furnishings; kept the Dean informed on the day-to-day operational/
administrative support matters of the College; screened telephone calls for the Dean,
handled any matters that did not require the Dean’s immediate attention or intervention;
managed the budget, including both departmental and grant accounts; handled the
distribution and checking of payroll; prepared and processed contracts for all faculty and
staff and executed “sign-on” paperwork for new employees; prepared all paperwork
necessary for the completion of the Search and Screen process (all aspects of the process
of hiring of new administrators and faculty members); monitored and prepared
contractual agreements (for preceptorship affiliations) with clinical agencies, hospitals
and private physicians; interviewed prospective staff members and prepared all
paperwork necessary for their hiring; oriented, trained, and supervised all new staff
members and student assistants; wrote own correspondence (memoranda, letters, and so
on); prepared letters, memoranda, advertisements, slide presentations, and any other
pertinent documents on computer; maintained the Dean’s calendar, scheduling all
appointments, meetings and conferences; made travel arrangements for the Dean;
prepared travel requisitions and reimbursements, departmental requisitions, and invoices.
