Yongwook Jun, a Korean native, is a professor and dean at the College of Business
Administration and Graduate School of International Management Chung-Ang University,
Seoul, Korea. His major teaching and research areas are Corporate Strategy and
International Business Management. Before he joined Chung-Ang University in 1988, he
served the Korean government as senior researcher at the Korea Institute of Economics
and Technology (KIET), a think tank for the Ministry of Trade and Industry. His major
research area at the Institute was industry policy formulation, especially, for the Korean
electronics industry.
Besides working for the Korean government in the capacity of advisor on industry
policy and internationalization issues, Professor Jun has actively engaged in business
consulting for major Korean business groups such as Samsung, SK, Hyundai and
Ssangyong for their corporate strategy building. Professor Jun has also served as
external director for Hynix Semiconductor, Plenus Entertainment and Daekyo Group. He
is currently working for an American strategy consulting house, Monitor Consulting, as
a senior advisor. His major areas of consulting and business counseling are corporatelevel strategy building and international business strategy. In terms of industry
coverage, Dr. Jun is most interested in semiconductor, automobile, and consumer
electronics.
Professor Jun is the author of a best seller book, The ROAD TO EXCELLENCE, THE
CASE OF SAMSUNG GROUP, the first business case book on Korean conglomerates,
which was published both in Korean(1994) and in Japanese(1997). He has also published
many articles mostly on internationalization process and global business strategies of
Korean firms in academic journals in both Korea and US. He served the Korean
Academy of International Business as editor-in-chief(1998) and president(2001).
Besides teaching and research activities, Dr. Jun travels extensively for lecture
engagements for overseas organizations such as East-West Center and Conference
Board of New York.
Professor Jun is a graduate of Seoul National University for his bachelor degree and
awarded his master and doctorate degrees in management from Northwestern
University (1980) and M.I.T. (1985), respectively. He lives in Seoul, Korea with his wife,
Mia.
