Documenting India - The Documentary Cinema of Anand Patwardhan
Indian documentary filmmaker Anand Patwardhan is known for his activism through social action
documentaries on topics ranging from corruption, slum dwellers, the nuclear arms race, religious
fundamentalism, citizen activism, and communalism. He has won innumerous national and International
awards for his remarkable films. The film director will present some of his works and ideas at this seminar.

Seminar Moderator: Nancy M. Tong, a New York based documentary filmmaker, has been making films for
more than 30 years. Her award-winning documentary films cover various subject matters - history, medicine,
arts and culture, and have been screened in film festivals and broadcasted on HBO, PBS, and other TV
stations in Europe. Her current projects include one on the art of classical Chinese Kunqu opera and one on
the Maryknoll Sisters contribution in education, medicine and social work. She also teaches documentary
film history and production at the University of Hong Kong.
