Prerequisite(s): MATH 1100 with grade of C or better. Satisfies the Mathematics requirement of the University Core Curriculum. Course Requirements: a. Homework: Homework will be assigned periodically. I will drop three homework assignments. Illegible work will not be graded and it is up to the discretion of the grader as to what is illegible. All homework must be submitted in hard copy form, thus fax, email, Xerox copies, etc. will not be accepted for credit. Homework will be taken up at the beginning of class. If there are questions over the homework, please take advantage of my office hours prior to the time the assignment is due. The math lab is also open to help your with any questions you may have. Late homework will not be accepted. b. Quizzes: There will be a short quiz at the beginning of class every other Wednesday unless otherwise announced. I will drop at least two of these quizzes. If you are tardy and miss the quiz you will not make it up. Quizzes will not be made up after the fact if missed for any reason. They can be taken early if you know that you will be out ahead of time. c. Exams: There will be two exams, and a final. See the absentee section on what to do if you must miss an exam. Exams will only be made up for full credit if the university excuses the absence and thus you are able to provide written verification. The final will be comprehensive. Prerequisites: A grade of “C” or better in Math 1100 or a valid “Permit for Math Enrollment” form. See prerequisite verification procedure attached to this. Note that test scores on the math department placement test are valid for one year from the test date. Deadline date for showing proof of prerequisite is Friday January 28, 2005 at 3pm. Catching up due to an unexcused absence is not my responsibility; it is yours. It is in your best interest to attend every class, but in the chance that you miss it is a good idea to have exchanged email and or phone numbers with your classmates on the first day of class. If you must miss class: a. Students who miss a scheduled exam must contact the instructor within 24 hours of the scheduled exam. b. For students missing an exam for unauthorized reasons, THE HIGHEST POSSIBLE SCORE ON A MAKE-UP EXAM WILL BE A 70. Therefore, without a valid excuse, there will be an automatic deduction of 30 points off your make up exam. c. You are responsible for obtaining all handouts and/or announcement information. d. Student athletes who anticipate missing a class, exam, or assignment due to a University sponsored athletic event must provide appropriate documentation and notification PRIOR to the absence. Calculator: On all exams, you will be allowed to use calculators. You may use the calculator to check work, do simple arithmetic, etc. However, work must be shown. If work is necessary and none is shown no credit will be awarded. Wrong work with a right answer is not worth full credit. TI- 83 calculators are available for use only on site in the math lab for 25 cents. Starting this year, calculators are not available to be check out and taken outside of the math lab. See me with questions regarding this. Disabilities: In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, it is the responsibility of students with certified disabilities to provide the instructor with the appropriate documentation from the Dean of Students.
