Call for Papers
21st Century Challenges for Our Veterans & Their Families
April 05, 2013
Mt Ida College
777 Dedham St. Newton, MA 02459
The headlines in our papers each day create an action list for the Human Service Professionals:
 Veteran unemployment is nearly twice the national average
 One of every 3 Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans suffers from PTSD,
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or a combination of the two
 A third of all homeless citizens in America are Veterans
 There is a backlog of over a million claims at the Veterans Administration
 Female veterans are more likely to commit suicide
 Immigrant Veterans face deportation
The list runs the gamut: mental health, heath care, housing, financial support, child care,
education, employment and every supportive service surrounding each need.
How are we responding and what do we need to do to improve this response?
