New England Organization for Human Services 2013 Annual Conference Call for Papers 21st Century Challenges for Our Veterans & Their Families April 05, 2013 Mt Ida College 777 Dedham St. Newton, MA 02459 The headlines in our papers each day create an action list for the Human Service Professionals: Veteran unemployment is nearly twice the national average One of every 3 Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans suffers from PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) or a combination of the two A third of all homeless citizens in America are Veterans There is a backlog of over a million claims at the Veterans Administration Female veterans are more likely to commit suicide Immigrant Veterans face deportation The list runs the gamut: mental health, heath care, housing, financial support, child care, education, employment and every supportive service surrounding each need. How are we responding and what do we need to do to improve this response? We welcome proposals for papers that address all aspects of this challenge as it affects educators, students, practitioners, and citizens. Sessions last 60 minutes and the format of the workshops is flexible. Poster presentations (visual representations of research, teaching approaches, practice strategies, or reports on programs and projects in the profession of human services) are also welcome. Proposals should be submitted electronically by March 01, 2013 to Dr. Doe West at doewest@qcc.mass.edu. To submit your proposal, save a copy of this document on your computer. Open your copy and delete the general information pages before this one. Type your responses into this form. For example, under “Title,” delete the instructions and type your title; under “Presentation Format,” check the box by your preference.
