AEIS 2012
1. Go to the Accountability Division of the TEA website.
7483660 ) To view the accountability “snapshot” (this is not a picture) of your
district or campus:
a. In the ribbon along the left side of the page, first click, “AEIS” This will
take you to the Academic Excellence Indicator System Home
page. In the left hand side bar, click AEIS 2010-2011.
b. This leads you to the Report page where you have the option of examining
score reports from individual campuses, the district, the region or
the state. For the purpose of this assignment, click District in the
left hand sidebar. Leave question #1 the way it is; in #2 click
District Name, and in #3 put the name of the district you would
like to investigate. Click Continue.
c. You will be presented with a great deal of information about the district
you chose. Select statements containing pertinent information to share
about the district. Realize these are the final TAKS scores. As last year
was a benchmark year for STAAR, these are the accountability ratings
until the state verifies the new standards. (Minimum of 5 facts)
see scanned in picture below
2.
Identify the school district and school name.
Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD. Kathryn S. McWhorter Elementary School
3. Describe the school building (age, condition of building, general appearance).
built in 2002. This is school is in nice condition. When I walk in, it is very clean
and open, yet as a visitor, I know that children are at work here: learning by
doing. There are students’ work displayed neatly on the walls as well as
motivational posters and other various visuals. I have not got to see the entire
campus but my pathway when going to the PE gym leads me to see that the
school is in great condition. The playground is a bit small outside with a smaller
playground equipment set than I prefer for kids. The classroom I have been
observing in, the gym, is too in great condition! The floor appears to be
hardwood but has a cushion-aspect to it that’s required. It is not the typical floor
surface in most gyms. I can say that the parts of the school I have seen, the
general appearance is one of the cleanest school facilities I have observed so far.
4. How many children are enrolled? How many was the building designed to hold?
Are there portable buildings? If so, how many?
On other CFB-ISD school websites, there is a link called “Campus Report” that
brings up all the demographic information like asked in this question. However,
this school does not provide this information via their school website and I am
surprised. However, I found this statistical and demographic information on
another CFB-ISD resource. There are 640 total students in this school. There are
no portable buildings. The building was designed to hold 825 students.
5. What is the range of grade levels? How many classes/students per grade level, on
average?
K-5th. One website says there is 17.4 students/teacher on average but I find that
hard to believe because there are 70 kindergarten students alone who pass
maximum capacity in classrooms.
6. Describe the classroom demographics. (# of children, diversity, subject/grade
level assignment)
2011-2012: 640 students enrolled. 2010/2011=recognized. 2012 not available.
Kindergarten-5th grade.

8. What special programs (during school hours and after hours) are available at your
field site?
Computer, Arts, Music, P.E., choir, jump rope for heart, all of 5th grade can do track
in the Fall, Walk for the Cure, safety patrol, faculty mixed with 5th grade
volleyball team in Spring
9. Describe the “feeling” of the school (open and friendly, business-like). How
does it feel to be an adult visiting the school? How might it feel to be a new
student in this school?
This is school is in nice condition. When I walk in, it is very clean and open, yet
as a visitor, I know that children are at work here: learning by doing. There are
students’ work displayed neatly on the walls as well as motivational posters and
other various visuals. I have not got to see the entire campus but my pathway
when going to the PE gym leads me to see that the school is in great condition.
The playground is a bit small outside with a smaller playground equipment set
than I prefer for kids. The classroom I have been observing in, the gym, is too in
great condition! The floor appears to be hardwood but has a cushion-aspect to it
that’s required. It is not the typical floor surface in most gyms. I can say that the
parts of the school I have seen, the general appearance is one of the cleanest
school facilities I have observed so far. It is typical to see some teachers really
engaged, genuine, and patient with students and then it is typical to see teachers
less patient with students. The teachers I am observing, PE coach & PE aide, are
very engaged and involved with the students. They make it a priority to put the
students’ learning and safety first in a fun, yet safe, environment. As a student, I
would be appealed to school on physical appearances because it is updated,
meeting safety codes, and all around in great condition. So I would feel safe.
Learning a little about the daily routines and structures, I as a parent and student
respect the systems they have created because it ensures consistency and fairness.
10. If you were a parent, would you want your child to be enrolled in this school?
Why or why not?
Like mentioned earlier, I have not got to observe other teachers and examine the rest
of the school’s facility as in detail as I have the classroom and close surroundings that
I have been in when observing my professional. However, the parts I have seen I
approve. This is states that they are recognized in TEA but does not say notify if it is
the most recent rating or not. Also, the school’s website does provide a link to
examine the TEA reports but only for 2008-2009. I would like to see more update
information and ratings before making a decision to enroll my student here.
* Additional tool: School District Locator…You can get boundaries of districts as well as
