Autumn Term 2014 Class 2 This term’s unit of work is called Marching Through Time On-going work English Maths Multiplication tables: year 2: 2,5,10 Secretarial: Year 3: 3, 4, 6 Presentation- revising joins Mental maths strategies Spelling- high frequency words and Addition, subtraction, multiplication new vocab, suffixes, the ou sound and division methods Sentence level- Verbs, verb tenses, Problem solving and investigation punctuation, prefixes, suffix ly techniques speech, sentence structure, use of commas As authors we will be As mathematicians we will be As scientists we will be As creative artists we will be Writing in the role of a WW1 soldier who is on the front line. We will produce a diary entry and write letters home from the front line. We will produce a newspaper to tell people what is happening during the war. Learning about place value and how to partition numbers up into thousands, hundreds, tens and units. We will also look at how to add three digit numbers in a column method. We will look how to create simple circuits that could provide sound and light to the shelters that we create in our design technology lesson. Drama We will take on the role of different characters from Fantastic Mr Fox and discuss how Mr Fox could resolve his conflict. Secondly, we will act as soldiers from the front so that we have a stimulus for our diaries. Art Firstly, we will look at the different types of war memorial and discuss their meaning. This will help us create a sculpture that can be used as a modern day memorial. Optional: creating a felt design for a battle scene. Optional: creating a propaganda poster. Dance We will look at how soldiers march in procession and the different styles of marching and using this to choreograph our own dance Music We will look how the end of war is celebrated with songs and different types of music. As geographers we will be Finding out what countries were involved in WW1 and where the different battles took place. As community members we will be As sports men/women we will be As entrepreneurs we will be Talking to local members of the community to see if they have any connections or memories of battles and conflicts. Developing our indoor athletic and tag rugby skills. As historians we will be Looking at skills that make a good historian. Finding out why some conflicts start and the different reasons for them. We will also think about what life was like for people during periods of conflict by looking at a range of different time periods. Create a social and community project working with Woodlands Residential Home to find out if they have had any personal experience of recent conflicts.
