Monday, October 27, 1014 Deuteronomy 6:1-9 Scripture Observation Application [6:1] “Now this is the commandment—the statutes and the rules—that the LORD your God commanded me to teach you, that you may do them in the land to which you are going over, to possess it, [2] that you may fear the LORD your God, you and your son and your son's son, by keeping all his statutes and his commandments, which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be long. [3] Hear therefore, O Israel, and be careful to do them, that it may go well with you, and that you may multiply greatly, as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey. [4] “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one. [5] You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. [6] And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. [7] You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. [8] You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. [9] You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates. (Deuteronomy 6:1-9 ESV) Prayer Tuesday, October 28, 2014 Proverbs 1:8-9, 2:1-15 Scripture Observation Application Prayer [8] Hear, my son, your father's instruction, and forsake not your mother's teaching, [9] for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck. (Proverbs 1:8-9 ESV) [2:1] My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, [2] making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; [3] yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, [4] if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, [5] then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. [6] For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; [7] he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, [8] guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints. [9] Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path; [10] for wisdom will come into your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul; [11] discretion will watch over you, understanding will guard you, [12] delivering you from the way of evil, from men of perverted speech, [13] who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, [14] who rejoice in doing evil and delight in the perverseness of evil, [15] men whose paths are crooked, and who are devious in their ways. (Proverbs 2:1-15 ESV) Wednesday, October 29, 2014 Psalm 127 Scripture Observation [127:1] Unless the LORD builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. [2] It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep. [3] Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. [4] Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. [5] Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate. (Psalm 127 ESV) Application Prayer Thursday, October 30, 2014 II Timothy 1:1-7 Scripture Observation [1:1] Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God according to the promise of the life that is in Christ Jesus, [2] To Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord. [3] I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day. [4] As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy. [5] I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well. [6] For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands, [7] for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. (2 Timothy 1:1-7 ESV) Application Prayer Friday, October 31, 2014 Proverbs 13:24, 22:15, 23:12-19, 23:22-26 Scripture Observation Application Prayer [24] Whoever spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is diligent to discipline him. (Proverbs 13:24 ESV) [15] Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline drives it far from him. (Proverbs 22:15 ESV) [12] Apply your heart to instruction and your ear to words of knowledge. [13] Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you strike him with a rod, he will not die. [14] If you strike him with the rod, you will save his soul from Sheol. [15] My son, if your heart is wise, my heart too will be glad. [16] My inmost being will exult when your lips speak what is right. [17] Let not your heart envy sinners, but continue in the fear of the LORD all the day. [18] Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off. [19] Hear, my son, and be wise, and direct your heart in the way. (Proverbs 23:12-19 ESV) [22] Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old. [23] Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding. [24] The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; he who fathers a wise son will be glad in him. [25] Let your father and mother be glad; let her who bore you rejoice. [26] My son, give me your heart, and let your eyes observe my ways. (Proverbs 23:22-26 ESV) “SOAP” Scripture Open your Bible to the reading found under today's date.
