Jasper Pillow 17” square Supplies needed: {Yardage based on pre-washed fabric 42” wide fabric} Toile MaggieC7417 – 2/3 yard Blue stripe MaggieC7416 – 1/3 yard Ditzy Blue Floral MaggieC7573 - 1/4 yard Yellow/blue/cream large floral MaggieC7415– 1/3 yard Muslin – Fat Quarter Batting – Fat Quarter (Draw grid on diagonal.) > One 16” pillow form Yellow and blue quilting thread Use a 1/4” seam allowance unless noted otherwise. Example Directions: Cut a 17” square from the muslin. Fold it in half on the diagonal and press, fold it in half again and press. Open up the muslin and use the pressed X in the center and using a pencil draw a 6 1/4”square. Continue drawing squares around the center 1/2” apart to the edge of the fabric. Cut six strips of the blue stripe fabric 1 1/2” wide 44” long carefully capturing the decorative stripes. When sewing them on alternate the white strips. Cut two 1 1/2” x 44” strips of the ditzy floral. Cut 1 strip of the blue toile 1 1/2” x 44”. Cut a 6 1/2” square of the large floral capturing the largest arrangement. Construction: Center the large floral, on the diagonal, on top of the muslin and pin in place. Pin the next strip in place and continue sewing and folding three strips of the blue stripe fabric in the same manner. Then sew a strip of the ditzy floral. Then sew two more strips of the stripe. Trim off any fabric that is over the edge of the muslin. Measure the four corner triangles and add 1/4” on all sides. Cut triangles from the large floral fabric. Pin along the edge of the last stripe fabric, right sides together, and sew to the muslin. Quilting: Stitch around the edges of the pillow top. Cut small slits in the muslin behind the large floral areas and stuff with batting. You can hand stitch the slits closed or fuse them closed with a piece of left over muslin and a fusible web. Use the blue quilting thread to free motion quilt around the blue flowers and leaves. Use the yellow thread to go around the yellow flowers. Back: Cut the large piece of the toile into two pieces 17” x 20”. Fold them in half to 17” x 10”. Lay one on top of the other, folded edges centered, overlapping until it measures 17” square. Pin. Stitch the sides together. Finishing the pillow: Place the top face down on the backing right sides together. Pin around the edges. Stitch with a 1/2” seam allowance around the pillow and then sew a zigzag stitch along the raw edges oftop to strengthen. Turn the pillow right side out and insert the pillow form.
