Description: The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position with a 9-month appointment. This individual will teach undergraduate and graduate engineering classes, advise undergraduate and graduate students, and will be expected to develop a strong externally-funded research program. Generous startup packages are available. The department offers BS degrees to approximately 450 undergraduates with an average high school GPA of 3.82 and participates in the programs of the University Honors College. The MS and PhD programs serve approximately 40 graduate students. The faculty includes 2 NSF Career Awardees and produces over 100 publications per year. Minimum Requirements: Applicants are required to have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field. Candidates with a strong background and experience in the following areas are especially encouraged to apply: Traditional and advanced manufacturing, rapid prototyping, 3D printing, experimental mechanics of materials, and mechanical design. Exceptional candidates in other areas will also be considered. Preference will be given to applicants with industrial experience and those who can complement existing strengths in the department. The ability to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in Mechanical Engineering is required. The ability to develop and teach courses in traditional and advanced manufacturing is strongly desired.
