SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES
FELLOWSHIP – led by Bill Wiemers. “Philemon & Titus” New members and visitors
are welcome to join. The Class meets in the Fellowship Hall by the Sanctuary.
JOHN WESLEY – led by Barbara Hudson. Video series and discussion on being a
“Contagious Christian”. No study required.
NOMADS’ – We will be watching an Alistair Begg series “Shaped by Grace” which is
based on Paul’s letter in Romans 12. Through Paul’s letters to the first-century church, we
see practical actions and attributes that should mark the life of every Christian, no matter the
circumstances. When we apply what Paul teaches it should cause us to be different from
unbelievers around us. There will be discussion after each DVD.
SEEKERS – “Exploring Christianity’s Ten Toughest Questions” by Lee Strobel Author
of Case for Christ and Case for Faith. All are welcome. Great class to invite friends or
neighbors to.
YOUTH – Come study “Back to Basics” for back to school with Kim & Paul Radich.
Bible study, discussion and snacks provided.
CHILDREN – Three classes are available for children, PreK-K, 1st-2nd and 3rd-5th. All
classrooms are accessed from the hallway by the church office. The curriculum used is “The
Gospel Project for Kids”, a Bible study that presents the story of redemption through Jesus.

Sermon
“Who are You?”
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those
Who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen

Our Mission Statement
The mission of the Congregation of the First United Methodist Church is to
continue to be a committed fellowship of disciples sharing the love of God
through Jesus Christ and furnishing a place of Christian worship, programs,
services and facilities for its members and the people of the
Johnson City area.
Teddy Bear Ministry
You are invited to hold a bear during joys and concerns and then take it and
give it to someone who needs a word of encouragement, healing, or up-lifting.
We ask that you do not take one for yourself. We also welcome bears that you
would like to donate. They don’t have to be new. We are able to clean most
“old” bears.

Lord Jesus Christ, you are the way of peace.
Come into the brokenness of our lives and our land with your healing
love.
Help us to be willing to bow before you in true repentance, and to bow to
one another in real forgiveness.
By the fire of your Holy Spirit, melt our hard hearts and consume the
pride and prejudice which separate us.
Fill us, O Lord, with your perfect love, which casts out our fear, and bind
us together in that unity which you share with the Father and the Holy
Spirit. Amen.

Word of Assurance
May the almighty and merciful Lord grant us remission of all our sins, true
repentance, amendment of life, and the grace and consolation of the Holy
Spirit. Amen.

Romans 12:1-8
12 So, brothers and sisters, because of God’s mercies, I encourage you
to present your bodies as a living sacrifice that is holy and pleasing to
God. This is your appropriate priestly service. 2 Don’t be conformed to
the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your
minds so that you can figure out what God’s will is—what is good and
pleasing and mature.
3
Because of the grace that God gave me, I can say to each one of you:
don’t think of yourself more highly than you ought to think. Instead, be
reasonable since God has measured out a portion of faith to each one of
you. 4 We have many parts in one body, but the parts don’t all have the
same function. 5 In the same way, though there are many of us, we are
one body in Christ, and individually we belong to each other. 6 We have
different gifts that are consistent with God’s grace that has been given to
us. If your gift is prophecy, you should prophesy in proportion to your
faith. 7 If your gift is service, devote yourself to serving. If your gift is
teaching, devote yourself to teaching. 8 If your gift is encouragement,
devote yourself to encouraging. The one giving should do it with no
strings attached. The leader should lead with passion. The one showing
mercy should be cheerful
