The characteristics and development of adolescence
Five characteristics of adolescence that everyone shares are biological growth and
development, an undefined status, increased decision making, increased pressures, and
the search of self. Puberty is universal aspect of adolescence. During this phase, the
brain and endocrine system develop. During adolescence, children grow both mentally
and physically. Also, they experience some primary and secondary characteristics. They
may suffer and feel anxious and embarrassment because of acnes.
How dating developed and the functions it serves
Dating has started to emerge during industrial revolution. Many people moved from
countryside to cities. At cities, they became financially independent from parents. This
economic freedom developed dating. Functions of dating are a form of entertainment, a
mechanism for socialization, fulfillment of certain basic psychological needs and help for
individual to attain status.
The problems of adolescent life
During adolescence, children confront many problems, such as sexual behavior, drug
use, and suicide. Sexual behavior may cause teenage pregnant. Usually, teenage
mothers are not mature enough. They have economical and physical difficulties to help
grow their child. Also they face drug use. They start use drug because of their
environment. They sometime try to suicide because of their age, gender, family
environment, isolation, population density, and alcohol and drug use.

What major social problems face American teenagers today?
American teenagers have many problems, sexual activity, drug use and suicide.
Teenagers sometime became pregnant during youth. Teenage mothers usually have
more problem than other mothers. Drug use rate also has increased. At the same time,
rate of suicide is increased.

Why do you think that adolescence, by and large, is found only in modern
industrialized society?
Industrialized society made life easier. People have more free time than those in past
did. This made teenagers different from young and adults.
How do advertisers use poor pressure to encourage you to buy various goods and

Why do you think most teenagers see less danger in regular drinking than in the
regular use of drug and cigarettes?
Because drug is illegal and cigarettes make people addicted, many people think those
are more dangerous than drinking. They have many times to watch adults drinking
alcohol..
