Postdoctoral/Research Associate positions (2) in the Chazin laboratory at Vanderbilt University are available for highly motivated NMR structural biologists. One position is for study of multi-domain proteins and multi-protein complexes involved in DNA replication, damage response and repair. The focus is on NMR, SAXS and computational studies of the structure and dynamics of replication protein A (RPA) and its interaction with DNA primase and other genome maintenance factors. This position requires a background in biomolecular NMR. The second position is for study of the role of calprotectin in the innate immune response to infection by bacterial pathogens. The focus in these studies is on x-ray crystallography, NMR and SAXS analysis of the calprotectin (S100A8/A9) heterodimer and its interaction with the receptor for advanced glycation end products (RAGE). In both positions there are opportunities to be involved in the discovery of relevant small molecule inhibitors. These positions are excellent opportunities to become experienced in the integrated applications of advanced structural/dynamics methods at the cutting edge of medicine and biology. The laboratory is well rounded and multi-disciplinary, with staff, students and postdocs whose research efforts focus to different degrees on the wet lab and structural analysis. Moreover, our laboratory has an extensive network of collaborators working on fundamental biology and clinical applications. Applicants are expected to work well with others and will be encouraged to develop their leadership potential. Compensation includes moving expenses, a highly competitive salary and benefits. To apply, send a CV and a reference list via e-mail to walter.chazin@vanderbilt.edu.
