PE to Building Entry Switch at 1Gbs
Building Entry Switch capable of 1Gbs on all ports
Each Access Layer Switch has a direct link to the Building Entry Switch (OK to
stack switches, but eliminate daisy chained switch hops)
Access Layer Switch uplinks set to highest speed supported by existing
equipment (minimum 100Mbs, 1Gbs preferred)
Each building has a direct link to a PE (OK to have a passive patch through
another building, but eliminate daisy chaining with live electronics
Guidelines
All new switches will be either a 3750X, 2960s w/ stacking module or 3750X w/ 12 sfp
for fiber.
Where possible combine two 24 port switches to one 48 port switch.
Where possible use PoE to provide power to end points.
Evaluate and implement switch stacking on a case by case basis.
