POSITION/JOB TITLE: Forklift Driver LOCATION: Shakopee FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt AA/EEO CODE: 7 (operative) COC / SOC: 952 / 53-7030 IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Operations Manager POSITION SUMMARY: Safely operates forklift to assemble loads and move materials for customers and delivery needs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Customer Service. a. Represent SBL in a positive and professional manner b. Assist customer with the selection of materials c. Help customer load materials onto vehicle or unload any returns d. Assist installer or other employees with loading and unloading customer materials 2. Assemble loads a. Pull job tickets and select materials to fill order and assemble in staging area b. Band load c. Identify/tag load with customer information d. Enter correct inventory count into computer system (if necessary) 3. Load Trucks a. Load banded materials onto truck b. Communicate with Driver any add-ons to be loaded onto truck 4. Unload Trucks and rail cars a. Unload materials b. Stage materials c. Stock materials 5. Restock materials a. Restock customer returns b. Pull materials from overstock and fill in various areas 6. Housekeeping a. Remove bands, scrap lumber and trash from yard. b. Maintain appearance of lumberyard. 7. Snow Removal (Seasonal) a. Safely operate front-end loader, forklift and pickup truck to remove snow. (Manual equipment may also be needed: snow shovel, snow blower, etc.) 8. Safety and Wellness a. Offer suggestions to continually increase knowledge and awareness of Safety b. Computer Based Courses (CBT) completed as assigned c. Proper use of all PPE’s at all times and in all circumstances d. Operate equipment and tools according to established safety standards and regulations and only after being trained e. Support and promote safety and wellness initiatives f. Report all safetey concerns, harzards and incidents g. Follow ergonomically correct standards in the workplace h. Housekeeping 9. Continuous Improvement a. Support Continuous Improvement initiatives; follow Standard work as it applies to your work area and job functions b. Provide and seek input from your own team to identify process improvement opportunities c. Assist with identification of customer service issues and ideas for improvement d. Follow standard work documented process for changing standard work e. Participate in 6S events and sustain improvements in your assigned area f. Support and promote Continuous Improvement Incentives within your area ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Safely operate other equipment such as a chain saw and banding machine 2. Respect and comply with all personal safety equipment policies 3. Participate in inventory management process 4. Complete other duties as assigned EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 1. High School Diploma or GED 2. 3 – 12 months previous experience in lumber industry 3. 12 months previous stocking / forklift experience preferred KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: 1. Good communication skills using verbal and listening skills 2. Strong customer service skills 3. Excellent attention to detail 4. Safety oriented 5. Ability to process environment and surrounding elements 6. Ability to read labels and job tickets 7. Ability to perform basic math functions 8. Knowledge of building materials and products 9. Good sense of visual judgment and memory 10. Entry level computer skills helpful PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 1. Ability to lift and carry 50 – 75 lbs (100 lbs. occasionally) 2. Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, and reach with your body, arms, and /or legs 3. Ability to use hands and grasp and manipulate objects ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: 1. Work outdoors in temperatures ranging from extreme heat to extreme cold 2. Work with mechanical equipment 3.
