PROGRAM: PLASTICITY 2016, Sheraton Kona, Jan. 3-9 Rev. 24, Jan. 6, 2016 (Almost Final) On conference dinner day, eat light lunch as most likely the conference dinner will be the best meal that you will eat on the island during your visit. This resort/hotel is totally smoke free, smoking is not allowed even on the balcony. There are some designated areas for smoking. There is $300 charge if your room has a smoke smell any time during your stay. In addition to taxi from the airport which is about $50 one way, there is a speedi shuttle, http://www.speedishuttle.com/ that you can make reservations online and this one is $13.99 per person. Also see link for discounted car rental in one of the para. below. If you have not received the receipt of your registration fee and wish to get one at the conf., then send an E-mail to symposium@internationalplasticity.com and we will have it ready for you. The conference dress code is smart casual, no half-sleeve shirts or half pants for presenters as well as listeners. Participants staying at Sheraton will be able to purchase reduced price breakfast buffets. At check in you will be provided with reduced rate breakfast coupons, they are roughly 33% discounted as the price on the coupons is inclusive of taxes and gratuity. The full breakfast is $20 icluding tax and gratuity (regular rate is $24.99 plus tax and gratuity) and continental buffet w/o hot food and omlettes is $15 including tax and gratuity (there is no such option in regular pricing). Although you can get ala carte items at the coffee shop, it adds up to be much more than the buffet; the coffee shop is ideal if you are going to have bagels and coffee. Also at check in, you will be provided with 20% discount coupons for breakfast, lunch and dinner in Sheraton restaurants and coffee shop. If at check-in they forget to give you these coupons, then ask them at that time, or go back later. Admission to dinners will be using name-tags. Children under 18 will not have name-tags but will be allowed without name-tags. Thus if a participant does not wear name-tag to the dinner, he/she may be served children’s menu and no complimentary alcohol. We have slightly changed the menu for the dinner on Jan. 3rd as we have replaced the cheese crostini in the salad with local poke (marinated local seared Ahi tuna). If you do not eat poke, you may be able to ask for cheese crostini. Please note that the program may change some but within your initial hotel reservation dates. Please inform us if you have any problem immediately to symposium@internationalplasticity.com and it will be promptly corrected if possible; longer you wait to inform us, harder it will be to change. The following are complimentary only to our conference registered guests at Sheraton: high-speed internet access in guestroom; self-parking for 1 vehicle; unlimited local and 1-800 calls as well as 30 minutes of domestic and international (within USA) telephone calls per day; 2 bottles of water daily; use of the Kona Trolley; and access to Yoga Classes, Cultural Tours, Hula, and Lei Making classes. A mandatory porterage charge of $5.00 in / $5.00 out per person (plus all applicable taxes) will be assessed for Customer arrivals or departures to/from Hotel’s facility, at the time of check-in or departure, requiring luggage handling (haul your own luggage and there will be no charge). If you have an accompanied person(s) and have not registered him/her, you are required to do so immediately as dinners have to be ordered much before the conference and these are expensive & elaborate dinners (see menus at the very end), irrespective of their desire to attend complimentary conf. dinners or not, see registration form. Please arrange health, travel or any other insurance that you may need as the conference does not carry any insurance on your behalf. Sheraton is a high category property, but you should observe normal safety and health precautions (not leave smart phone, ipad or laptop unattended) and follow normal health precautions for travelling to a tropical resort, e.g. in selecting tours, do not go to places where you may get exposed to mosquitoes (e.g. rain forest) and use proper spray (e.g. containing 20-30%DEET) to safeguard against mosquito and insect bites, as well as wear full sleeve shirt and pant when go out of Sheraton; check & follow your government guidance/warnings regarding such places. Kona and big island have had an outbreak of Dengue fever which has peaked around 160 three to four weeks ago, and those cases are not infectious any more. In last week or so, they have only one case which is the only one infectious now. Thus the outbreak appears to have almost died down and under full control. According to Sheraton, they have had no cases of Dengue fever among guests or staff during this period. Thus the fever was and is in areas away from Sheraton. Please contact Tammie.Carpenter@sheraton.com for further updates on Dengue in big island and precautions. This program will change in several revisions until Dec. 28 for last minute cancellations. If you change your initial reservation, you should arrive at least one day before your presentation (to offset problems with possible delayed or missed flights and stay at least one day after your paper as it can move up and down to eliminate conflicts of various kinds. Reservations can be changed online, or by contacting kori.gacayan@sheraton.com or Eliza.Phillips@sheraton.com. At Royal Kona, reservations can be changed by writing and to marites.bravo@hawaiianhotels.com . We have arranged a very special discount (almost 50% off regular rates) with Enterprise rent-a-car, use https://legacy.enterprise.com/car_rental/deeplinkmap.do?bid=002&cust=L36gp05&referedPage=multiDivOffer Please note that there is a one day penalty if you do not cancel your reservation 48 hours before your reserved arrival. These rates are only good for pick up at, and return to Kona Airport. Self-parking is free at Sheraton, and is $10 per day at Royal Kona, for our conf. participants and their registered guests only. The lowest daily/weekly rate is $25/$175 plus taxes and fees, but it is only for pickup and drop-off at the Kona airport; there is a $50 surcharge for not dropping at the airport. This link takes you directly to the discounted rates and thus you do not need a code. We are requesting some colleagues to Chair sessions by putting their names on the program. If you cannot accept our invitation, then please inform us and we will change it. Chairs are requested to bring their laptops for session that you are chairing, as per our experience, it is most efficient as you know how to handle your own laptop if there is a problem, alternatively you can use laptop of another presenter in your session for the same reason. If both alternatives are not possible, there will be laptops available in the registration room for your use. The main responsibility of the Chair is to make absolutely sure that papers start and finish at specified times (within one minute of the specified end), as colleagues move in and out of sessions to attend other papers. Please print the program just (one day) before your departure to Kona Airport, but after December 28, if you need a hard copy for your use. The conference will provide only soft copies on memory stick, or you can download it on your smart phone/ipad/laptop from our website. Hard copies have become obsolete these days with widespread use of electronic devices. There is one night cancellation fee and one night early departure fee if you leave earlier than your reserved dates. Sunday, January 3, 2016 Registration 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM……………………………..
