Further Success for St Seachnall’s in Parnell Park By Andrew Quinn and Cormac Curtin It was a wet and windy day as St. Seachnall’s were crowned Fingal League, Junior Division 1 champions. Only a few weeks ago St Seachnall’s Senior boys’ and their Senior girls’ teams were victorious there as well. Now the Junior Boys’ Team, which is confined to 4th and 5th Class pupils, were playing against Pope John Paul II N.S. from Malahide. The Malahide boys got off to a flying start with a quick point from play and then another point from a 45’. However St. Seachnall’s came storming back after a great pass from Andrew Quinn, was finished to the back of the net with a thundering strike from Aaron Murphy. With the two teams exchanging points the score at the interval was 1-5 to 0-5 in favour of St Seachnall’s. After the interval St. Seachnall’s N.S. tightened their grip on the game with two points from Mathew Costello and a point from Fionn Cummins. St. Seachnall’s stayed in the lead for the next 15 minutes, but only by a couple of points as Pope John Paul’s fought back tenaciously to narrow the margin. A goal from John Paul’s levelled the match with just five minutes left. The scene was now set for a pulsating finish. A terrific run from midfielder Mathew Costello was finished to the back of the net by Cormac Curtin. Again the teams exchanged points. With 30 seconds remaining Ethan Mahase made an amazing save and that was to be the end of a nail biting match. The St. Seachnall’s team and management celebrated on the pitch with joy. The end score was 2-13 to 2-10. It was St. Seachnall’s first Fingal Junior Title.
