PURPOSE OF THE JOB (M AXIMUM OF 6 LINES)
The main purpose of this post is the training and education of undergraduate students in (INSERT DISCIPLINE).
Administration of certain teaching activities within the discipline is also required. Tutors are seen as having only a
teaching function, and not having a research or community service function. If tutors are interested in a
permanent academic career, they have to improve their credentials.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES RELATED TO KRA’s

1. Teaching










Develop teaching materials such as module guides, test papers, examination papers, assessment
instruments, and workbooks.
Facilitate learning using different teaching methodologies.
Assess student performance in a reliable and valid manner, appropriate to the outcomes.
Plan and implement the offering of modules alone or in a team.
Provide opportunities for individual student interaction.
Establish and maintain supportive and professional relationships with student for whose teaching s/he is
responsible.
Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design and delivery, and obtaining and
analysing feedback from students, the line manager, and peers.
Deal professionally and positively with student concerns, problems and challenges.
Recognise areas where current provision may be in need of revision or improvement.
To act as a mentor for students in the capacity of personal tutor, giving first line support.
2. Administration





Become acquainted with all relevant University policies and to implement these appropriately.
Responsible for the preparation and co-ordination of various teaching and examination schedules within
the Discipline.
Manage own teaching programme efficiently, keeping adequate records of teaching, student
performance and other aspects of functioning.
Other administrative duties as designated by the Head of the School/ Department.
Maintain own professional registration, if applicable.
3. General


Show a willingness to embrace the ethos and philosophy of the School and the University.
Any other responsibilities and functions that may be delegated by the Head of Discipline, Head of School
or Dean within the scope of the competencies of this profile.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND EXPEREINCE
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Honours in (Insert Relevant Discipline) or 4 year Bachelors Degree

IN YEARS
EXPERIENCE
KNOWLEDGE

Two years experience in either teaching/lecturing/research or industry
experience in the relevant field or discipline
A four (4) year Bachelor or Honours level degree
Other specific qualifications may be required






Understanding of departmental functioning
Good Knowledge of the academic discipline environment
Involvement in professional activities where applicable
Computer proficiency
Knowledge of Research Methodology
Understanding of Higher Education environment
