Chemistry Agenda
Unit 3: Atomic Structure, Nuclear Chemistry, and Nomenclature
Introduction:
We hear something about atoms all the time. Some say we live in the “Atomic Age.” The terms atomic power, atomic energy, and atomic bomb are part of our ordinary vocabulary. But what are atoms? Are they for real? How do we know they are actually there? In this unit, you will learn that the smallest speck of matter can contain billions of atoms. That our world is made up of atoms, and atoms are a part of all we do. As a scientist, understanding atoms is the fundamental basis for understanding the complexity of our universe.
Learning Targets:
1.
I can locate and describe the function of subatomic particles in an atom.
2.
I can use the periodic table to identify and calculate characteristics of specific atoms
3.
I can identify and describe the function of isotopes and ions
4.
I can justify an opinion on nuclear chemistry research.
