 Minimum Quals ~ carryover item from previous meeting
o No report available from Brook Oliver (not at meeting) or Shasta College (not connected yet to
videoconference)
o Jeff Cummings reported Min Quals discussed at January CCCAOE Board mtg. CCCAOE will
generate letter outlining position; will also solicit letters from local key industry leaders for
support of Min Quals
o Recommendation: Each CTE campus rep should meet w/ Academic Senate President to gain
support at Spring Plenary (March)
 REMINDER: NFNRC 2010 Webinar Series: Social Media Tools for Economic & Workforce Development

 Leadership Institute, April 28-30, 2010, San Ramon, CA ~ Conference Facilitator, Dave Logan, is an
excellent speaker
o Usually rotates North < -- > South. However, due to poor North attendance, this may be last year
for ‘North’.
o Event is sponsored by Regional Consortia. No one pays. All expenses covered! Always have room
for more than one per college. No one has ever been turned away. Encouraged to send a team!
o Gerri to take poll via email re: how many participants each college expects to send.
 North State Rural Renewable Energies Technician Program Update – Jeff Cummings
o Jeff discussed the “Renewable Energy Technician Core Certificate” handout (see www.nfnrc.org
Calendar 1/29/10)
o The Core Certificate provides entry-level skill sets that allow students entry into Renewable
Energy Installation and Maintenance programs at one of the five Community Colleges
participating in the project (Feather River, Mendocino, Lassen, Siskiyous, Redwoods).
o Areas available to Core Certificate earners are: Solar, Wind, Biomass/Cogeneration,
Hydroelectric, Geothermal
o April/May ~ Paul Mrowczynski will attempt to hold industry skill set meetings; bring instructors
together
o Brad Banghart also developing Core project to include dual enrollment w/ high schools (test pilot
project)
 WIB Partnership Survey ~ to facilitate collection of data to enhance partnerships between community
colleges and WIBs in our region
o Needs to be 100% completed by 15 NFN colleges by Friday, February 5th.
o Gerri to RE-SEND to voting members to ensure completion.
 Concerning WIBs ~ opportunity for mini-grant up to $20,000 (per region) for joint project w/ WIB
o Stewart Knox (NorTEC Director) proposes convening of WIBs in northstate around sector strategy
approaches / working relationships. Interest in attending a convening?
o Project must enhance relationship between colleges and WIBs
o Cris McCullough to lead discussion in Los Rios area

legislation progressing through both the state and federal legislatures that impact CA community
colleges, now and in the future!

Far North region
o Will need basic skills teams of faculty to attend to share expertise. Linda to survey
region for interest.
o Projects w/ particular regional impact:
1. Contextualized Basic Skills Workshops
2. Revised NextSkills Curriculum for High Schools (being piloted at 3 Sacramento
Charter Schools). Results will be shared thru Train-the-Trainer.
3. Working w/ sign language interpreting faculty at 2 Los Rios Colleges (great need
in healthcare) to potentially offer courses for Sign Language Interpreting
certification.
