This doument is an extract from an article written by Alan Zarembo and
published in the American weekly news magazine Newsweek on September
10,2001. It is entitled "Why the Caged Bird Sings" and tells the story of Ana, an
undocumented Mexican immigrant who left her country and family to go and
work in the US, in the hope of making enough money to provide her children
with better living conditions.
Ana's is a rags-to riches story, but she is paying a high price for it .

how she managed to climb the social ladder, finally I'll speak about the darker
side of her success story, which will enable me to comment on the title of the
article and highlight the journalist's view.
