15 (INTER)NATIONAL WOMEN HELPED BREWING LITTLE SISTER OF
DELIRIUM TREMENS
Melle, 7 March 2014 – Given the tremendous success of the first brewage (150 HL)
of Deliria last year, brewery Huyghe decided to brew the beer a second time in
2014. And just like previously, women were asked to help brewing. Now, 2 months
later, the 450 HL are ready to be launched on the national and international
markets. As of tomorrow – International Women’s Day (8 March) – Deliria will be
available at selected beer wholesalers.
Deliria is certainly not a typical, sweet beer, but a heavy blond beer with 8.5% ABV. The
aroma is very balanced, with a fruity and flowery background and a first impression of
chardonnay, that further evolves to a spicy, mild hop aroma. Only a very limited volume
(150 HL) of this beer was brewed for the first time last year and immediately the
reactions – both by connoisseurs and everyday beer lovers – were very positive. Deliria
even received an Honourable Mention at the international beer competition Brussels
Beer Challenge (Sept 2013). Which only increased the demand for Deliria, which is why
brewery Huyghe decided to brew Deliria again in January 2014.
Just like last year the brewery used Facebook to launch an appeal to women to help
brewing and the reactions were again overwhelming. Eventually, 15 women were
selected to join and help the brew master on 25 January 2014 in Melle. Next to some
Belgian ladies, there was also an Australian, American, Spanish, German and Dutch lady
present. Together they brewed 450 HL and today – almost 2 months later – time has
done its work and the beer is ready to be launched and tasted.
As of 8 March, International Women’s Day – Deliria can be found in some selected beer
wholesalers. And while the first brewage was only available on the Belgian market, this
time a part was also reserved for foreign markets. And although the demand again
outnumbers the offer, a large part of Europe, the US and China will now also have the
privilege to taste this exquisite beer.
