Seeking Applicants for the Mike Alizadeh ASCE
Scholarship
The ASCE St. Louis Section is seeking applicants for the 2010 Mike
Alizadeh Scholarship that is awarded annually to a graduate student who is
pursuing a Master’s Degree in Civil or Geological Engineering with a
geotechnical or environmental emphasis at a Midwestern university. The
scholarship will be $2,500 and will be awarded in September 2010. The
scholarship will be administered by the ASCE St. Louis Section Geotechnical
Committee.
In honor of his significant contribution to the geotechnical and environmental
professions, and strong support and belief in ASCE, Mike Alizadeh’s family has
established this scholarship fund. Mike Alizadeh began his 38 year career as a
geotechnical engineer in 1959 in the St. Louis Area where he worked for such St.
Louis firms as Fruco Engineering (now BIS Fru-Con) and McClellan Engineering.
In 1975, he opened the St. Louis branch of Shannon & Wilson where he held
such positions as Branch Manager, Senior Vice-President, and Eastern Region
Manager. In 1984, Mike founded the firm of Geotechnology, Inc. in Maryland
Heights, Missouri, which has grown to one of the largest geotechnical and
environmental firms in the region. Mike was a life-long member of ASCE and
strong supporter of the ASCE St. Louis Section.

emphasis at a Midwestern university (must receive BS prior to
7/1/10)
