Job Description – Structural Engineer Plan and execute structural engineering design – modifications to existing structures, foundation design for walls, canopies, other miscellaneous structures. Ability to analyze or discern basic structural anatomy in unusual applications and ability to translate technical terms to practical design are essential. Ability to develop innovative solutions is desirable. Responsible for developing own budget and schedule and assisting with proposals. Perform peer reviews of others’ work and provide value added comment. Ability to work with those in other engineering and architecture disciplines and integrate his or her work into that of an inter-disciplinary team is necessary. Familiarity is needed with steel, concrete, masonry, aluminum and wood design. Experience in working directly with clients and proactive communications is also essential. AutoCad, ASCE wind load design and computerized design are also needed. Work may entail some direct AutoCad design. Ability to obtain PE within three years. Qualifications BSE in Civil Engineering – structural option, from an ABET accredited institution 1-2 years experience in structural design, may include experiential learning (co-op or intern experience) EI registration. Participation in professional/technical societies. Knowledge of building codes in Florida, ASCE wind load design criteria, and other industry standards, and ability to communicate with local building code officials. Experience with computer based solutions for reports, communication to clients, spreadsheets and technical computations Experience in commercial or industrial setting.
