Je suis dada – between dream and reality designaustria and the designforum WIEN show the Guest Country Belgium as part of

On Passionsweg 1 three design interventions in the centre of town will be discovered on foot: the Budapest-based Sausagefence Group (HU) at WOKA Lamps Vienna have been working with a central theme of this manufacturer of primarily historical lamp models – with time.

Meanwhile the designer Lucie Koldova (CZ) will be presenting her installation at

Jungmann & Neffe, the undisputed king of fine woollen fabrics, and has built a functional, contemporary throne for the manager of this traditional, high-quality establishment.

Two corners further on, the London-based designer Max Lamb (GB) will be exhibiting his examination of the three disciplines of his host, J. & L. Lobmeyr – glass blowing, cutting, and engraving – in which he demonstrates in an amazing way the “worth” of hand craftsmanship.

Passionsweg 2 takes us to the Stuwer Quarter, where the designer Tina Lehner (A) at the Kürschnermeister Weinberger has turned discarded Persian lamb coats into stuffed animals and security blankets in a poodle look.

At the Ledermanufaktur Posenanski it is also rather “beastly”, for the Lausannebased designer Adrien Rovero (CH) has produced intelligent toys in the forms of animals, making use of a computer-operated cutting machine.

Meanwhile, at the flower shop wildwuchs – Der Blumenladen im 2ten, the designers from breaded escalope (A) have reinvented city dwellers’ relationship to plants. Instead of soft-serve ice cream, liquid fertilizer and seeds are put into the ice cream cone, in a call for “urban gardening”.

On Passionsweg 3 the industrial designer Adam Wehsely-Swiczinsky (A) with

Petz Hornmanufaktur will exhibit the results of his work with the pre-industrial material horn in a post-industrial context, presented in leather at Horn’s Wien.

Further on, Meran-based designer Walter Thaler (I) will be occupying himself with the sensory and emotional experiences of the traditional shoemaker’s trade.

With growing chains, enlarged jewellery details, and suddenly appearing ornaments, the designer duo mischer’traxler (A) will grant you fresh insights into jewellery at

Rozet & Fischmeister Kammerjuweliere.

Designer Marei Wollersberger’s (A) project with the Wiener Porzellanmanufaktur

Augarten is less concerned with the porcelain object than with its cultural context and a vision of the future of production.

Bejeweled – Industrial Design Meets Jewellery Nine industrial design students have enrolled for the workshop “bejewelled”, a project of Schullin Jewellers with the

University of Applied Arts Vienna. The results are quite impressive: from rings whose parts seem to float into each other to chaotic-appearing design elements in bracelets and chokers – industrial design meets jewellery.

Thomas Feichtner: Reset That contemporary design and production by manufacturing can complement each other is demonstrated by “Reset”. Combining such varied materials as silver, crystal, and porcelain, Feichtner forgoes the classical characteristics of a table service.

Swarovski Crystal Palace presents work by Arik Levy Pieces from a pioneering exhibition of work by Arik Levy will be revealed. Two Chaton Superstructures will be displayed in the garden of the Liechtenstein museum during Vienna Design Week. In addition, TableScape jewellery in marble and wire frame will be exhibited at

Sotheby’s Vienna. These special sculptures explore the relationship between architecture, space and object.

With a demonstration laboratory the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK will transfer the creative process into the public arena. Designers from a great variety of disciplines will be working in the project space karlsplatz. Overlapping and meeting form a substantial part of the concept, as does the direct documentation of the results on walls or façades. The “show laboratory” will be a place where work processes can be followed directly, and even for looking over the shoulder of the designer at work. The VDW laboratory will also serve as the Headquarters of the VIENNA DESIGN WEEK, as a meeting and information spot for festival visitors.
