To explore the basic principles and concepts of physical geology, with specific emphasis on plate tectonics, rocks and minerals, weathering and soils, earthquakes, geologic time, streams and coastal regions, and groundwater. Attendance: Attendance is mandatory. Missed activities cannot be made up. Lab Reports: Unless told otherwise, lab reports are to be handed in at the end of lab. You cannot hand in a report for a lab you did not attend. In other words, as stated above under the heading Attendance, Missed activities cannot be made up. Lab reports will be graded with respect to content, writing, and spelling. A grade of 0 will be assigned for each missing lab report. Quizzes: Quizzes must be taken when scheduled. However, they may be retaken one time at a later date. If you retake a quiz I will substitute the higher grade for the lower grade. Grading: The maximum point value for lab reports and quizzes is 250 points. Final grades will be calculated as: (points earned / 250) X 100. Letter grades will be assigned on the following basis: 90-100% = A (4 quality points per hour) 87-89% = B+ (3.33 quality points per hour) 80-86% = B (3 quality points per hour) 77-79% = C+ (2.33 quality points per hour) 70-76% = C (2 quality points per hour) 60-69% = D (1 quality point per hour) > 60% = F (0 quality points per hour)
