Model of the Human Heart

Ms. Beal

Description of Project

Each student will create a model of the human heart using certain guidelines set out in the following paragraphs. Each project will be graded using the rubric found attached to this sheet.

Poster

Your first task will be to conduct some research and submit a poster. The poster must include the following components:

1) A diagram of the heart that is correctly labeled with the following: a) Right and Left Atria b) Right and Left Ventricle c) Aorta d) Pulmonary Arteries and Pulmonary Veins e) Superior and inferior Vena Cava

YOU MAY NOT CUT AND PASTE FROM THE COMPUTER. YOU

MUST DRAW THE HEART!!!!!!

2) Arrows through the heart showing the correct flow for blood through the heart chambers, arteries, and veins. Blue arrows must be used for blood high in carbon dioxide and red arrows for blood high in oxygen.

3) Information on the heart including the following: a) Relative size of the human heart b) Two diseases of the heart/blood vessels stating their cause and cure c) The main job of the heart

DUE DATE FOR POSTER: MONDAY, March 10th

Model

A) Each heart model must include the following: a) Right and Left Atria b) Right and Left Ventricle c) Aorta d) Pulmonary Arteries and Pulmonary Veins e) Superior and inferior Vena Cava

B) Each part of the heart must be clearly labeled. Labels can be numbers or letter on the model combined with an identification chart, or the names can be written directly on the model. Be sure they are clear!!!

C) Your name must be written in an obvious spot on the model!!

D) ***You will receive bonus points if your model can hold a liquid and be pumped to

show the correct flow of blood through the heart. ***
