Building Homes Of Love Building Homes Of Love Dr. Curtis Rogers knows how tough it is for the parent of an adult child with special needs. As a geneticist with Greenwood Genetic Center, he sees hundreds of families come to the realization that their child will never outgrow the need for mom and dad’s shelter and protection. But as an InDwellings board member, Dr. Rogers has hope that when mom and dad are no longer around, there will be a safe and secure home staffed by professionals to help their loved one enjoy life to its fullest. “There are about 800 families on the critical-needs list in SC,” says Rogers, “and about 3,000 total waiting for a placement.” Without homes like those being built by InDwellings, these families will continue to wait with little or no Dr. Rogers and one of his patients, hope. To give them hope, we need Kelly Vaughn, whose parents know the value of a future home for her. your help. Dr. Curtis Rogers knows how tough it is for the parent of an adult child with special needs. Consider making InDwellings a part of your ministry! “Just to have a place for Kelly in a Christian atmosphere means a lot. If we weren’t able to take care of her, we’d at least know she was safe and loved. And she may mature to the point where she wants more independence. Right now, I don’t know where we’d find that for her.” -- Peggy Vaughn, Kelly’s mom “Just to have a place for Kelly in a Christian atmosphere means a lot. Tell Me More … How Can I Help? InDwellings is currently accepting one-time and annual pledges in its threeyear capital campaign, which was launched May 28, 2009, at our build-site. The homes will be constructed in Easley, SC, on 1.1 acres of land adjacent to Presbyterian Communities of SC, which donated the land. Each home will accommodate four residents. The estimated cost of construction for the first two homes is $950,000, our financial goal of the campaign. Construction will begin when InDwellings has received financial contributions totaling 75% of the cost of the first home. The first year’s operating expenses (estimated at $212,000) have already been met by current InDwellings funds, and will be supplemented by resident fees, state and federal assistance funds, and charitable contributions. InDwellings is requesting all PC(USA) churches of the Foothills Presbytery to consider a 3-year pledge to this local missions ministry, in addition to support from individual donors across the Upstate, private foundations and governmental grant sources. Commemorative naming opportunities are available. Allen L. Freeman of Freeman and Major Architects has been selected as the architect in collaboration with our builder, Trehel Corp.
